My Holiday Traditions | Blogmas Day 2

It is no secret that I love Christmas! After all, I grew up with a mother who always loved the holidays and made it her duty to ensure the house was always well-decorated.

There are some traditions I've held on to from a child to adulthood which always make the holidays extra special. If you love the holidays like me, keep reading to learn all about the traditions I've held so dearly to my heart.

I get the Holidays started with ....

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving! I'm Jamaican and we do NOT celebrate this holiday as it has nothing to do with our history. However, Thanksgiving is the official start of the holiday season and good old "Chuck" has been on TV before I was born. It's just a great way to start my holiday season. I love the part where Peppermint Patty not only invited herself over to Charlie Brown's house but all their friends and they were served toast and popcorn by a dog and a bird

Next ... It's all about the Tree (and taking stock)

Every year, I have a "Christmas Tree Theme" and take stock of the items I already have and the items I need to purchase. Here in Jamaica, we are not as wasteful and will use what we have and purchase what we need as opposed to buying a new tree and decorations. Once I've made a list I then go shopping in November when things are cheap! My go-to place for the nicer decorations is Fontana Pharmacy (Barbican) and for the other "filler/cheap" stuff, I go to Woolworth.

And we're OFF!

Every year without fail there is a family vacation to the North or I take a solo trip away from Jamaica.  #funfact: I actually prefer solo trips as they are less stressful and fewer people to deal with. People here in Jamaica say we have a different kind of Christmas as there is a party almost every day .. thing is, there's always a party! Christmas in Jamaica has lost it's whole family time concept and it's all about parties. I find that in the states it's more family oriented and I actually like that, plus! It's just nice to get away from the "Island Vibes" every now and again.

My Holidays are not complete without .. HOME ALONE

I've watched Home Alone countless times since It first came out until now! I even checked the schedule to see when it will be on and it's between December 6 to 13th. There is just something about a mouthy kid outsmarting 2 grown men + a huge family of mainly self-centered people and a couple weirdos (pigeon lady and the old man next day ) that makes for great family entertainment. If you have not seen this movie, you are seriously missing out. The shenanigans and jokes never get old!

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.
