2018, My Year In Review | #Blogmas Day 20

As I sit here and write the review I can't help but thank God for taking me through another year! I've seen the rise of mental illness in Jamaica -- suicide + murder-suicide and our teenage girls being slaughtered at the hands of "Dons" and vile men who are just sick! So you see, after stating all that, I surely must thank God for truly keeping me on the straight and narrow and for taking me this far!

In 2018, all my dreams came true! I had no idea I would be attending New York Fashion Week in February and I did -- this was something I've always dreamed about and had no idea how me a little Jamaica girl (woman) would get to such a major event with limited connections. I was also privileged to cover Shaggy & Friends with my team after telling my cousin in Florida in December of 2017 that I would love to be a part of such an event and I did it.

2018 was dubbed as my "Issa Year" -- this season of "Insecure" was all about Issa's growth and learning to take responsibility for her actions, make better choices and ultimately start being a serious adult. Here I learned that even people with good intentions will let you down and people with bad intentions will betray you and you will have to learn to forgive them and move on for the sake of your very own sanity + growth. This year, I learned about people and how fickle, faulty and full of shit they can be to suit their own needs and fulfill their hidden agenda. This part got me down and almost got me to stop Blogging completely as I was betrayed by people who I had known for some time and looked up to as mentors and had no idea that they could turn on me just for a few extra dollars! Meng! I was down for some time and really took a break to forgive these people and got back to Blogging!

This was when I committed to writing and publishing 2 posts per day which I did and surprised my self! I also got invited to more local events and this year we did close to 300 events and for this I am thankful! This year my team was myself and an occasional photographer which was no easy feat for 2 people to do, but we made it happen. I finally got on the "Blogger Bus" for Restaurant Week where I met winemaker Jason Dodge of Robert Mondavi Wines and toured the best Restaurants across Kingston -- this was preceded by the Collection MoDA Media launch that saw a handful of Jamaica's tastemakers for which I was invited to, how dope is that?!  We of course produced amazing photos and well-written articles from which our Social Media grew. Between all this, I really got out of my comfort zone, pushed myself, went to amazing events, met amazing people and just really lived.

Just a few days ago I learned that I was in the top 5 in the Lifestyle category of the South Florida Blogger Awards which will be held in January 2019 in Florida! I am the only (yardie) Jamaican in the entire Awards and for that, it is truly an honor!

2018 was a great year and I see that hard work, stepping out of my comfort zone and faith in God can really make a difference in my life. I plan to go harder in 2019 regardless of whatever challenge presents itself and all the bad people that might appear out of nowhere to stop me.

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
