How to lessen your stress

We’ve all felt it, no matter how young we think we are, no matter how old we may be. Somehow stress seems to be an intricate part of our lives, however, it is not stress that torments us, it is our reaction to it. All the darkness and despair that seems to accompany stress, can actually be curtailed, however, it requires work. Every great result in life requires hard work, and in order to alleviate stress, one must work assiduously to ensure that this result is achieved. The following highlights certain steps that can be taken to achieve this result.

Over the years, research has shown that exercise is a fundamental tool to combat stress. As college students in particular, when you are bombarded with the struggles of acing your exams and ensuring that you are in good financial standing, stress is almost inevitable. Although it may seem rather difficult to accommodate this new activity into your busy schedule, proper time management will facilitate this. Thirty minutes a day, whether it is before classes in the morning or after classes in the evening, will be a significant first step towards reducing stress.

Also, with all the responsibilities that we have, it is very important to socialize with friends and families. A lot of times we bury ourselves so deep in what we’re doing, whether it is work related or school related that we forget to live. Life is all about experiencing new things and socializing. This, however, does not negate the importance of our responsibilities, it is all about balance. By taking care of our mental wellbeing, good results will automatically ensue. Therefore, when life becomes overwhelming, take some time for yourself and socialize with your friends and family, this will inadvertently reduce your level of stress.
While exercising and socializing are important, getting a good night’s rest is still a very effective remedy to this day. It is always imperative to ensure that you are properly rested in order for your brain to effectively execute its necessary functions. Despite the fact that you may be occupied with so many obligations, so many different deadlines to meet, it is almost impossible for you to perform to your fullest potential if you are overwhelmed and stressed. So, take a few hours, recharge, and face whatever you need to do diligently and stress-free!

We’ve all heard that laughter is the best medicine, and this has proven to be true. Laughter may help to relieve stress by decreasing your stress hormones which inadvertently will, in the long term improve your mood. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, which promotes an overall sense of well being. Hence, when you are overwhelmed and the stresses of life seem to be innumerable, remember, a little laughter gets the job done faster.

It is always important to remember that stress relief, like almost everything in life, does not happen overnight, however, by being persistent, and making a few adjustments, over time the results will become apparent.
