Fall Makeup and Beauty Trends

"New season comes with new trends", and as Carrie Bradshaw says, the runway season is a time when we leave our foolish choices behind and embrace new, trendier and perhaps even more flattering ones. The fashion world is always ahead of us, so we are blessed to get the skinny on what will be hot in the fall as early as February. Still, as much as we follow the runways, who can remember all the fall trends, especially when the end of winter is a time when we’re too busy focusing on what we’ll be wearing and what makeup looks will be hot in the summer. This is exactly why a friendly fall beauty reminder is due so we can freshen up our memory, practice mastering new makeup skills and gathering all the tools we’ll need to make this a beauty season to remember.

Sophisticated and minimal

One of the absolute hottest trends spotted on the fall runways was the sleek and minimal makeup one. This look features a light coat of foundation, a touch of pearlescent eyeshadow to make the eyes look fresh and awake. The only added elements are nude lips – achieved by using either the perfect nude shade for one’s skin tone or simply applying a sheer lip balm. A little contouring was present just to chisel out those cheekbones and bring them to the fore, and the final cherry on the sundae is combed feathery brows, hair slicked back. The outfit that goes amazing with this look is a black power suit because it’s so polished and professional, it feels like it was made for a powerful lady boss.

Focus on the skin

The one thing in common all the models had, regardless of the difference in makeup looks they were rocking as they walked down numerous runways is amazing skin. It’s no secret that the emphasis on healthy and naturally radiant skin that has absolutely nothing to hide. Michael Kors famously sent models down the runway without a smidge of makeup during the SS 2018 show, and this trend has survived the summer season, so it’s safe to say that caring for your skin will be hot for years to come. Now, in that spirit, every magazine editor and dermatologists will tell you to arm yourself with new and amazing solutions – a great and effective serum is one of the hottest innovations on the block. Everyone is buzzing about how if your skincare routine is short of a serum your skin is greatly missing out, so aside from the double-cleanse arsenal, a good toner and a nourishing fall moisturizer, make sure to incorporate this liquid magic into your routine as well.

Electric lady

No, not just a song from a lesser-known synth-pop band called Tesla Boy, but an actual makeup look. If we had to name the hottest shade of the season, it would have to be the electric blue that has all of a sudden become present in almost every new eyeshadow palette from every major and even drugstore brand. It is another trend that was hot during the summer and that transcended the warm season and jumped right into the upcoming one. There are tons of ways to rock it, from the editorial geometric way, the YouTube tutorial cut-crease way to a normal smoked out and well-blended out the way. The technique is a matter of preference, but hot nights at the club and even special events call for bold eyes, and few things are bolder than ostentatiously blue lids.

Going over the top

Metallic lips will be all the rage this season, make no mistake about it. The shades may shift from the coral and fuchsia to different shades of brown, berry, red and even copper, but the metallic lip will reign supreme. Now, as if that wasn’t enough, designers such as Giambattista Valli and Maison Margiela had their models do their little turn on the catwalk with lips full of glitter, and it seems that the trend is catching on in real life, or at least on Instagram. We’re not exactly sure how this would hold up in an office environment or even at the club on a rocking Saturday night, so we suggest that for a touch of eccentricity you still stick to the metallic lippies and leave the glitter for the festival season.

Safe and sound

Worry not – if you’re a perfect red lip and clean eyeliner look girl, feel free to rock it knowing that your look is on trend and on point. Yes, sometimes trends can be a little crazy, but that is why some things are meant to stand the test of time – red lips and winged eyes being one of them. As a fan, you probably already know how to pull off this look, so just snag a new tube of lipstick and stock up on your go-to type of eyeliner and you’re all set for the fall.

Strands for days

For many women, hair is an integral, sometimes crucial part of their look, so it’s highly important we address the trends that are all about the hair. First of all, blonde shades are still in high demand, especially those warm honey and caramel ones. Aside from that, it seems that long and healthy strands like Blake Lively’s are have become the most important thing – which is no surprise given the emphasis on the healthy bare skin. Therefore, whether you love your hair blonde, red, or you take pride in being a brunette, you must ensure that your strands are well nurtured and healthy. The nonchalant ‘I just dried my hair’ look is totally in so all the lazy girls or those who don’t have any styling skills can take a sigh of relief, their laziness is finally a thing.
Some are gorgeous, some outrageous and others classic timeless looks. Whichever side you’re most drawn to, follow it, because this season, anything goes.
