Summer Goth Style | How to Wear BLACK in the Heat

There is no doubt the summer heat has been nothing short of dramatic! This would simply mean less layering and more skin-showing -- while that might be true in some cases, there are those of us who still want to wear all-black and look bada$$ doing it!

Take a page from style icons like Kim and Kanye West who have put their own modern gothic twist to the Susie Bick lacy Victorian or Michele Lamy by ditching the summery ubiquitous floral dress. Here are our tips to wear black this summer inspired by Goth Style.

90's Goth

Kendall Jenner

My all-time favorite era--it's no surprise this made our list. One thing to remember is how simple yet bold the 90's was. The major key here is to add statement pieces like combat boots or a pair of black trousers/leather. Think of wearing staple pieces like a spaghetti strap dress, lycra crop-tops and a pair of matrix style sunglasses. This should, of course, be complemented by dark make-up, but don't go too crazy or you can look like a raccoon.

Think of It girls like Kylie Jenner and Gigi Hadid who wear this trend effortlessly and look great doing it.

Victorian Goth

This is one of the most recognized subgenres of Fashion Gothicism though it does not exactly scream "summer". Here, the aesthetic is more classic and dressed up and you should add more fitted pieces like corset belts that accentuate the female shape and anything lace for that added detail, in black! You can add a see-through black lace dress over a pair of shorts and a cami with a triangle pair of boots and finish with a pile of antique or costume jewelry.

Think of stars like Beyonce' who made the see-through lace dress and fedora hat combo famous.

Fashion Goth

The Olsen Twins

According to Vogue, the Fashion Goth are those people who are influenced directly by Rick Owens who have a strong influence on Avant-Garde pieces. This is more of a lifestyle investment and you would definitely mix high end - with higher end. Think of the way people would mix a pair of black Balenciaga sneakers with a high-end black Gucci Dress. If you are more of a high-end girl, this is the brand for you.

Think of the dynamic duo The Olsen Twins and the way they are always in black, with Birkin bags and cashmere sweaters in the middle of August.

While Gothic style will never go out of style, there are always ways to wear it year round (even in Summer and make it your own)
