"You have to be able to accept failure to get better"- Lebron James
It's not very often you see the headline that reads "Famous Basketball Player Opens Public School" so when you see it you spread the good tidings all around. The man who has dubbed himself "King LeBron" and "Mr. Basketball Man" has opened a Public School in his hometown, eastern Ohio.

I Promise School opened Monday, July 30, 2018, and has been the talk of the town and on the lips of every celebrity, citizen and of course Politician. The school that targets at-risk youth who are falling behind the K-12 population in the classroom currently has 240 students spread across two grades -third and fourth. In 2019, the grades will expand to include second and fifth grades then first through 8th grades with no current plan for kindergarten.

LeBron believes that I Promise School will work because of it being built from a model that reaps success -- it will feature longer school days, a non-traditional school year and greater access to facilities that are usually barred from students at Public School. There will also be a focus on Maths and Technology based programs narrowing in on STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math which will adequately prepare students for jobs in the near future.

I Promise School will be getting pupils who have spent their first three or four years in schools Ohio has given an “F” grade for student progress. Those first four years of early development are paramount to a child’s future success. As an oft-cited education adage goes; “before grade three, you’re learning to read. After grade three, you’re reading to learn.” State data suggests Akron’s students as a whole demonstrate below-average literacy skills as K-3 students. This threatens to create lapses in the early stages of of the new school as teachers struggle to accelerate student growth to meet I Promise’s standards.

We are interested to see how the School and students will perform for the first school term and the rest of the years to come. How do you feel about LeBron James opening a school?
