One sure way to truly piss a Jamaican off is by putting out a Dancehall Album ---if you are not Jamaican.
It was just a few short days ago when we heard news of Rihanna putting out a Dancehall Album after constant questions of when she will be releasing new music. Sis has been "work, work, working" on her Fenty Beauty Collection and Lingerie brand Savage X Fenty. Before you go judging us based on the title of this article, keep reading😃
In most of the articles, we found online, it states that Rihanna's team has received 500 records for this project from different producers and writers in the reggae-dancehall genre. Most musicians and artists in Jamaica feel that Rihanna has somehow stolen Dancehall culture and made it her own and is merely using the producers and songwriters. Here's what we have to say -- we found no article that said Rihanna's team stole songs from local talents they willingly submitted their songs.

Rihanna in "Work" |
Rihanna is of Caribbean descent (Barbados) and has done songs like "Work", "Man Down" and "Pon de Replay" which are all heavily influenced by Dancehall and were all well received. If someone is to "steal" a culture, why not a Caribbean Girl who is not only familiar with the culture but also grew up living in that culture. We kinda think those having an issue are a bit pressed as they might have missed their chance to submit their music for a chance to be featured on the album. We know this is not the article you were probably looking for, but we kinda don't see the issue here.
Instead of always having an issue with an International artiste "stealing" Dancehall, why not turn Dancehall from controversial to profitable--create better music with better beats and think of a strategy that will guarantee your success. We here at The Haute Lifestyle are excited to hear the album and see the styling and of course the make-up looks which will be trending on Youtube as soon as the videos are released as we know Rihanna goes hard on everything she does.
How do you feel about this Dancehall Album?
