BEST Tips for PROM 2018 in JAMAICA

Most High School seniors in North America and the rest of the world had their proms and had their Instagram viral “Prom Dress” moment –but here in Jamaica the season is just starting! Prom (once called Grand Ball) is a big deal and students go all out for this magical night –If you are not sure how to navigate your way around prom season, keep reading for our tips below.

Get Your Date

One thing I regretted at my very own Prom back in the olden days was not having a date! Silly me thought that it was the time to see my friends one last time and have a fun girls night out (PG 2000’s version) of course. If somebody asked you, be a dear and say yes! If you are lucky enough to already have a bae in High School ensure you make it clear that you want to go with each other.

Dress UP and Suit UP

Me! I would rock something like this if my Prom was 2018

Prom this year is like a low-key Met Gala or Grammy Event and everyone goes overboard! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you can afford it. If you truly want to be the belle of the ball—get your dress designed by a professional and if you are a guy opt for a custom suit. Department stores and Boutiques will offer a selection of dresses and suits and most will offer alterations. Ensure the clothing fits your body and be sure to coordinate with your date.

Get your Hair Laid Sis!

Jamaica is not short of Hairstylists and if you walk out with your hair looking whack –that’s on you sis! Research hairstyles that complement your look and be sure to show the hairstylist before the big day! There has been a beautiful picture of a senior in High School in a full face of makeup who looks gorgeous but! Her hair looks like a mountaintop! Her hair was not laid, sis! In some cases, cheaper is not better and you might want to spend a bit more just to get your hair right.

Make-up on Fleek or Nah?

Ladies, no prom look is complete without make-up. If you are skilled to do your own make-up go right ahead! If not, there are tons of Make-up artists who will beat your face to the gawds! It might seem trivial and even materialistic but I think this is the one time (other than a wedding) for a girl to get dolled up and the day to be all about her. Again, makeup should complement your outfit and should look as close to your skin as possible no matter how dramatic.

Arrive in Style

Back in my day, we went hard on the arrivals! We would splurge on the arrival vehicles from Limos to Benz and BMW  (enter the Blingaz Crew from JC) Apart from the dress and the hair you need to be seen as you enter! There are some kids who are privileged to already own cars and some will even be able to rent a luxury vehicle – if you are none of these people, you can always pool together and rent a party bus or SUV provided that you are 18 or have an adult do it for you.

Prom is the night of your life and a reward for all the hard work you've done throughout the years. have fun and be safe.

Congrats to the Class of 2018! Go forth with God –the day is now!
