GATFFEST 2018 Launch | Ready, Set , ROLL

Cannes might play host to the most prestigious Film Festival in the world -- but Jamaica's scenic beauty and a melting pot of culture make it the home of the Greater August Town Film Festival now known as GATTFEST and we are ready to parle' with the rest of the world through film!

The Jamaica Film Industry is alive and well which was expressed at the recent GATFFEST Launch last Thursday at the UWI which was well attended by some of Jamaica's top Media Practitioners, the Film Industry and of course lovers of film.

The event hosted by charismatic media personality, Terri-Karelle Reid and veteran broadcast journalist Dervan Malcolm saw speeches from Film Commissioner  Ms. Renee Robinson of Jamaica Productions Corporation (JAMPRO) who dubbed GATFFEST as "the little film festival that could" and an inspirational keynote speech from The Honourable Alando Terrelonge, M.P - Minister of State,  Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports.

The event that started in 2013 as an avenue to showcase the films produced by the graduates of the UWI Community Film Project, a community-based initiative supporting the Uwi Township Project. It also offers training in film and video production for youth in a number of under-served communities. This year GATTFEST will host its premiere on Saturday, June 16 at the Mona Visitor's Lodge & Conference Center and showcase the film, Hear Me Move, the first South African '"Sbujwa" dance film which was released in 2015. Among the list of filmmakers is our very own Kevin Jackson who is known for his animated film "Abeeku and the Maroons" and with a new entrant.

One thing was clear -- GATFFEST will be something to remember! And you should make every effort to see at least one film!

Other GATTFEST 2018 events include the International Film Night in Montego Bay at Palace Multiplex; Canadian Film Night in Kingston with guest, Canadian Filmmaker Ryan Singh; Japanese Film Night which will feature Chihayafuru, a manga (comics) series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu; Kingston International Film Night; Love Your Shorts Film Night; Colombian Film Night; Jamaican Film Night at Bob Marley Museum in Kingston. On Saturday, June 23 GATFFEST closes an award ceremony at which all winners will be announced and presentations made.

Daily Verse
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like, unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22:37-40
