#Fall Vibes | Jamaica Food & Drink Festival 2017 was Muy Picante'

"Variety is the spice of life" is a mantra well suited for the penultimate event of the Ja Food & Drink Festival.

The Ruins at UWI Mona, was the place to be last Friday as Food Enthusiasts, Chefs, Bloggers and local "celebs" came out in numbers for the event known as Picante’. If you have not guessed it by now, Picante' is a muy flavorful food event with a variety of spicy foods prepared by Jamaica's top Chefs.

The guest Chef of the night was The Food Network's 2x Chopped Champion Andre Fowles. Other well noted local chefs of the night were: Colin Hylton, Jacqui Tyson, Stush in the Bush, Charissa Henry, Allison Smalling, Oji Ja Ja, OPA! Alexx Antaeus, Simon Levy, Fromage Gourmet Market/ Brasserie and Chocolate Dreams (Michelle Smith).

When The Haute Lifestyle arrived at the venue, our first stop was Stush in the Bush where we tried the Spicy cauliflower chicken wings & mustard greens with liquid STUSH Blow fyah and grilled corn with a scotch bonnet cashew cream, cilantro & lime. The bold flavor of the "wings" complemented the grilled corn and took it to another level.

We then mozied on over to Andre Fowles' booth where he served oxtail mole with "tun caameal churros". As we ate forkfuls of the well cooked meat, as it melted beyond the hard palate -- the decision was unanimous, it was a favorite! Next was the main bar that offered bottomless drink concoctions that got us in high spirits. Picante was a great event that left us wanting more and excited for the 2018 staging.
