Pasta Supreme 2019 was a Pasta Lover's Delight

"Life is a combination of magic and pasta" - Federico Fellini

Last Saturday, foodies took their bellies to the coolest metropolitan district on the Island in Downtown Kingston by the waterfront for the gastronomical "Pasta Fest" dubbed as Pasta Supreme.

Pasta Supreme is a one-day premium all-inclusive food event that features a wide range of pasta dishes from top chefs across the Island that includes meat and vegetarian options! This year's event featured:

20 All-You-Can-Eat Pasta Dishes
Wine & Drink Inclusive Bar
Soup Station
Seafood Station
Fruit Smoothie Bar
Dessert Station
Salad Bar
Bread Basket
Art Walk
10 Supreme Chef's Face Off
Live Entertainment

In a Sea of Food Festivals across the Island, Pasta Supreme stands as King as it's the only one that is centered around pasta. The event was borne out of an observation by conceptualizer Dominic McDowell who realized that while Pasta Dishes were a part of almost every menu at Restaurants across the Island -- the options were limited and would feature the mundane Chicken and Shrimp options.

When Haute People arrived at the venue it was quite early and we got the chance to see the behind the scenes of the set-up and the preparation of the dishes! As the evening progressed and patrons starting filling the venue, the first stop we made was at Super Spicy Doubles as we heard so much about the Trinidadian stape street food and simply had to try it. As I'm on a healthy food journey, I opted for the Curried Chick Peas with Tamarind Sauce and it was love at first bite. The beans offered a hearty yet buttery texture which was complimented by the Tamarind sauce that was the right balance of tangy and spicy! Next up was the "Spicy Beef Chili Pasta" which was an interesting combination of the southern comfort stew (chili) and pasta -- the jalapenos were a nice touch which gave the dish "an Island Vibe" as the spice added an element of surprise to the dish. It was pleasing to the eye with the bright colors of the jalapenos and the red peas and was also filling to the belly!

The standout dish of the night was the delightful Curried Chicken Pasta from Pawsta that received rave reviews from patrons who sampled the dish, told their friends who the told their other friends and then went back for seconds (or thirds) in my case! The Pasta was cooked to perfection - chicken perfectly seasoned and it had the right amount of spice with a light cream made from coconut to "turn up the flavor" without it being too overbearing.

No food event is complete without dessert and the mini treats from Levy's goodies were the perfect way to end the night! I opted for the Vanilla Mini Cupcakes and the Red Velvet mini cupcakes as I could not choose between the two which were both delightful!

The thing we love the most about Pasta Supreme is the message they have at each staging and their mandate to include a charity aspect into their brand messaging. This year, it was creating awareness of Mental Illness which actually affects 1 in 4 Jamaicans and part-proceeds of the event went towards the Jamaica Mental Health Advocacy.

Pasta Supreme is a food event with a purpose that brings together food, friends and an overall great time in a lack-back setting. We thoroughly enjoyed all the different types of Pasta we had and is already looking forward to the 2020 staging.
