Mission Neahlis, a charitable foundation that advocates for victims of gender-based violence and persons who find themselves in resource-challenged situations was launched in 2017 by its Director Lisa McIntosh. The charity annually hosts the Mission Neahlis and Friends dinner, an event which seeks to raise much-needed funds and support to carry out the charities plans. Since its inception, the charity has raised awareness around the areas of its focus and in 2019 looks to further its mission by assisting persons who find themselves in resource-challenged situations.

In the first year of existence, the foundation hosted a charity event with the assistance of celebrity guest - American actress Ms. Vivica A. Fox. Her inspiring address appealed to the hearts of Jamaicans to bring an end to gender-based violence in their communities. Through that event, the foundation supported the Women’s Crisis Centre through pledges and donations of financial assistance.

The second edition of the charity dinner was headlined by Ms. Vivica A. Fox and also supported by Jamaican born American actress, Ms. Sheryl Lee Ralph, Member of Parliament and Former Ms. World 1993 Lisa Hanna. The proceeds from the dinner was used to assist Ms. Shanelle Richards, a twenty-year-old wheelchair bound athlete with a dream of representing her country in the field of shot put at the Special Olympics.

An elated Lisa McIntosh at Mission Neahlis and Friends 2018
“It’s absolutely incredible, the support that I have been getting since the starting Mission Neahlis, from assisting the Women’s Crisis Centre, young Shanelle and by extension the Southside community, I look forward to the years to come,” said Lisa McIntosh.

Now in its third year, the foundation has decided to revamp the Mission Neahlis and Friends event by switching things up with an interactive forum hosted by media personality, playwright, actress, and former Festival Queen Dahlia Harris. The panel will feature Vivica A. Fox who has been named the ambassador for the local charity. The discussion is loosely inspired by Fox’s current daytime talk show entitled “Face the Truth with Vivica Fox. The panel for the event will also feature Lisa McIntosh, Rondell Positive, Jacqui Tyson, Dr. Michael Abrahams and Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn

Panelists will be openly discussing and addressing issues related to gender-based violence and persons without access to financial or social resources. The objectives of this forum, which will be followed by a meet and greet are to assist individuals with the healing process either through testimonials of the speakers or from counseling.

“I have always enjoyed Jamaica; however this charity has given me so much more to look forward to when visiting Jamaica. The fact that I can lend my time and efforts to raise awareness, support, and resources is a reward in itself” said Vivica A. Fox

The event takes place on July 25, 2019, at the Spanish Court Hotel where proceeds will be used to assist Southside, a community where the foundation has been actively serving over the past year.
