Is Social Media Ruining Our Life

Boom! Just like that without any warning, Facebook and Instagram crashed! If you are an entrepreneur or have a business centered around Social Media, it was probably a rough day for you!

As for me, I'm a Lifestyle Blogger who also manages Social Media for a few businesses and when things went down I was crushed! I was not able to communicate with the rest of the world, schedule posts for the following day and I was actually one of those people who kept hitting the refresh button every 15 seconds hoping things would work again. We live in the "Instant Gratification" age where we have access to anything we want online, we can get things now with just the click of a button and you can use Social Media to create your ideal lifestyle that is different from your actual lifestyle.

Facebook + Instagram crashing for those few hours showed me how much of a slave we are to the online world, It's like we have locked into the matrix and never came back like Neo. I was watching a YouTube video ironically yesterday with Jaron Lanier, The Silicone Valley "Computer Philosopher" who had facts to back up his claim that Social Media is ruining our life. He said that once we delete our Social Media Accounts, we have more time for ourselves throughout the day and are more proactive, we lose weight and we are faced with the reality of living with ourselves and that life is not perfect-- ultimately, we have less stress because we are no longer comparing our lives with others.

I challenged myself last year to get off Social Media for 1 month and it was refreshing! I had more time to do stuff, I was less stressed and anxious and I was generally happier. Maybe this crash is a way for us to take a breather and focus on the important things In life and to re-connect with each other. Or maybe Facebook added another hidden feature where it's watching and listening to us and this might come up in another Shane Dawson Conspiracy Theory Video -- who knows?

I'm curious to know -- how did the crash affect you?

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
