Things we learned from The Bobby Brown Story

Friday, September 7, 2018

After weeks of teasing The Bobby Brown movie, the day has finally come! The movie comes on the success of The New Edition Story which premiered last year on BET and told the raw details (bar none) of the New Edition Group.

Since Bobby Brown was such an important part of the group and went on to have his own successes and downfalls, the network introduced a Bobby Brown Movie.

I don't know about anyone else, but it was a bit soft! I expected it to be as raw and hardcore as the New Edition Story but I was only able to get through the first 45 minutes of the premiere and had to rewatch the entire thing. There are a few life lessons we got as the takeaway from the movie and would like to share with you.

1. Always get up after a Fall

Imagine being the biggest superstar in the world, touring and having access to just about everything then being knocked right back down. After Bobby was voted out of the group he had to find a way to put pride aside and reach out to his previous record label to get back on his feet. This shows no matter how hard life gets and how many breaks you might take, you still have to get up after a fall.

2. Being Cocky is Different than being Confident

Ole Bobby sure was cocky! Being cocky is quite different from being confident in that a cocky person will have no regard or respect for anyone else. On so many occasions Bobby used his superstardom to step over everyone else to get what he wanted and didn't even flinch --he acted as if he was God's greatest gift to man and woman and did what he wanted when and how he wanted to. A confident person believes in themselves and respects people along the way.

3. Fewer Lovers = Less Problems

It always seemed like Bobby was on a downward spiral in the love department and was always getting someone pregnant even being engaged to Whitney Houston. Can you imagine how much of his money went to child support and court cases? Lawd! People, do what you want in your own time, but know that the fewer lovers you have the fewer problems you will have.

4. Cocaine is a hell of a Drug

We all know this and sadly when we think of Bobby Brown this is the first thing that comes to mind. Once you get involved in that stuff, you will get addicted! Poor Bobby was so hooked on the stuff that it made him miss his shows, was always angry and out of it and let down everyone around him, especially his mother!  There was a scene where he was taking "hits" in his room and his Mom came in and she knew what he was doing and you could see the disappointment on her face. Stay away from drugs! It will mash up your career.

5. Sometimes love can kill You

There is always that one person we know is wrong for us but for whatever reason, we decide to keep them around. Both Bobby and Whitney were equally messed up people and had this strange love of dependency on each other and substances. They both loved each other so much they didn' realize they were slowly dying inside.

Let us know if you liked the Bobby Brown movie and if it lived up to the hype.
