Spring/Summer 2019 presentation at New York Fashion Week

Saturday, September 8, 2018

Liquid fabrics draped in louche silhouettes and night-into-day hues serve as the backbone for Pickersgill and Wong’s creations for Spring 2019.

A reworking of night-time staples arrives by way of metallicized wovens that brush the body in second-skin silhouettes evoking a post-disco, don’t-care-but-I-most definitely-do mentality. Bold shoulders, some perpendicular, others padded, sloped and gathered, appear throughout the collection in a nod to 80’s ambition, excess, and empowerment. The reference to the era extends beyond the Carrington and Colby clans into a modern reflection on diversity and power by way of voice and image. In this context, each silhouette is less about recreating a decade most synonymous with Joan Collins on television screens, as it about giving a perspective to the women who weren't seen, who weren't heard, but nonetheless were proud, driven, and anything but mainstream.

For the duo, the 80’s were formative years on their understanding of design, glamour, and femininity. In effect, the Spring 2019 collection is neither a love letter or a distant memory to that time, but a modern reflection on aspiration and drive in an age where being different is alone a reason to celebrate.

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
