Manifest - Episode 1 Recap | PILOT

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

After hyped previews, the very anticipated "Manifest" premiered last night on NBC and we have so many things to say!

I'm wondering why they chose Jamaica as their port of destination and wasn't it cool how Montego Bay had their very one airline? Let's be real, most of us Jamaicans tuned in because we heard Jamaica .. lol. Let's commend the stewardess and the co-pilot for almost pulling off a Jamaican accent- they are slowly getting there.

The Premise

Here's what happened -- a seemingly perfect family were returning from their vacation in Jamaica to their home in New York. We get a small look into their lives and how it's not as perfect as it seems-- there are the parents (Mr & Mrs Stone) where the mom seems to be a devout Christian woman where her favorite verse is Romans 8:38 (a major theme throughout the series) They have 2 kids Ben, and his wife Grace, and fraternal twins  (Olivia and Cal) where Cal has Leukemia. Ben's sister Michaela, who is an Officer was involved in an on the job incident where she blames herself and seems to be completely ignoring her Fiance Jared who really wants to get married.

Episode #1

Anyway --- the flight is full and passengers are asked to give up their seats for $400 for a later flight and the Ben, Michaela and Cal decide to stay and board the later flight. During the flight, there is a weird turbulence due to a sudden change of weather not shown on the radar according to the pilot where things including a laptop with important research of one of the passengers are completely destroyed.

When they finally land, they are surrounded by police and emergency vehicles and all the passengers on board Flight 838 learned they were all missing for 5 years and presumed dead! When they reunite with their family, they learn that Mrs. Stone has died, the girl twin (Olivia) has grown and everybody else on that flight did not age at all! As you can imagine time has passed and Michaela's fiance is now married to her best friend (the shade of it all ) and he's now a fancy detective and the lead on a case of an abduction. Cal was initially given 6 months to live prior to his flight however since he's back things are exactly the same and he's given a new treatment (since things have improved over 5 years).

Grace seems to be in a secret relationship with a person, we don't know whether it's male or female but she has to keep things secret from her husband who has returned out of thin air .. literally!

Here's where it gets weird, they all hear voices that tell them similar things and leads them to set the little girls free who were abducted! It seems like they are not the only people who hear voices as all the passengers on the flight were all led to the plane where it suddenly exploded!

This was a great premiere and we consider it a psychological thriller and we are definitely excited to tune in next week to see what happens.
