#ModaMarket 2017 | Playground for the Cool, Stylish and Creative

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

It was hard to believe that the Worthington, a place we've been to several times for various events could be transformed into what could only be described as "Moda Magic".

Upon entering the venue, we got a soft, relaxed and intimate shopping vibe where the word fitting for the decor' was "daydream". Beautiful, colorful and cheerful faces greeted us as we made our way from to booth displaying expertly designed and curated pieces from some of Jamaica's top artisans and makers. Kia Williams and her Those Creative People team were charismatic and excited to show us the new "Hot" Fans as her beau manned the display and attended to shoppers.

One of the stand out artisans we met was "Denim Artist" Rhea Biradar who came to Jamaica by way of  Chicago due to a recent relocation of her husband. Biradar gives life to denim with paint and Swarovski crystals and expresses that there is a joy, a wonderful aesthetic discovery when she creates each piece.

The event that ran from Saturday November 11, 2017 to Sunday November 12, 2017 was for sure bigger and better this year and included new areas like the food court, kiddies area, and an entire back area for Designers and Artisans. Here we met Bahamian Designer David Rolle who gave us an interpretation of his floral infused collection he debuted at MoDA Runway. We also saw familiar faces like Kristie Stephenson of Storyandmyth who was as excited to see us as we were to see her and her blessing beads.

There was a lot to see and do as we made our way to each booth. Thanks to "Deaf can Coffee" for keeping us up and alert to go from booth to booth and Yello for the refreshing Lemonade to cool down. With a few locally made items in our Moda Market tote, we left yet another successful staging of the event.
