#Hautember | QORIHC Awards 2017

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Jamaica is synonymous with Athletics and Reggae Music (thanks to Bob Marley and Usain Bolt) and also for having the first Female Prime Minister. As of 2016, the country added another "first" to it's list of accomplishments in the form of an Awards Ceremony geared towards women. Queens of Reggae Island Honorary Ceremonies (QORIHC) is the only of it's kind in Jamaica where women are not only recognized but also honored for successful contributions they have made in their respective areas of Reggae and Dancehall.

The second staging of the event was held on Sunday October 29,2017 at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston and featured performances by Lymie Murray, Hezron and Chevaughn. Though the event got off to a late start, due to the weather, it was not short in vibes and positive energy as each honoree injected their unique personality to the moments.

QORIHC was created by Laurell Nurse of Nyte Nurse Promotions who wanted to create something for all the hard-working women behind the scenes. According to Laurell , "It's a growing event and we expect it to continue to grow every time we stage it. QORIHC saw the need to recognize these hard-working women for their contribution to the Jamaican entertainment landscape and overall cultural exposure worldwide while they are alive to enjoy it." . Accomplished Jamaican Media Personality Francois St. Juste played host to the event as he announced each honoree with a video; while Lady G closed out the show and proved she was still Jamaica's top Female DJ.

Honorees this year include: Entertainment and Artiste Manager Sharon Burke, Chef and Restaurateur Yvonne Hope, Fashion Designer Ashley Martin, International Model Nadine Willis, the founding female members and choreographers of Dance Theatre Xpressionz , Radio Personality Paula-Ann Porter- Jones, Business woman Joy Fairclough, Actress and Cultural Ambassador Dahlia Harris, Reggae Recording Artiste Lady G, PR and Event Planner Tracey Hamilton and popular back-up vocalists Carol Dexter and Nicole Burt.
