Top Moments at the Oscars 2017

Monday, February 27, 2017
We here at The Haute Lifestyle love Awards Season and could not miss the 89th Academy Awards known as the Oscars. The Oscars presented by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences honored the best Films of 2016 on February 26, 2017 in Los Angeles. The Event premiered on ABC and was hosted by Late Night Talk Show host Jimmy Kimmel who hosted the night with a few light hearted jokes and some that were a bit more uncomfortable to watch. While we always watch for the Fashion we thought it would be fun to share some of the Top moments of the night.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE OPENING

There have been talks in the past week of Justin's opening and we were intrigued as we are huge JT Fans. Justin's opening performance did not disappoint as he sang his latest hit "Can't Stop the Feeling" and went old school with a Lionel Richie classic all bringing " Sexyback" in his "Suit and Tie". Justin is one of those Artistes that appeal to so many people that he can take a 10 year break and still be relevant.

VIOLA DAVIS SPEECH

Did you know Viola Davis is the first Black Woman to win an Oscar , Tony and Tony? Can you say Trifecta!?  In retrospect Viola did have an amazing year and was cast in a sleuth of great movies with equally talented Actors/Actresses.

"I became an Artiste and thank God I did because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life" - Viola Davis.

We believe that Viola's speech should be nominated for an Award within itself. It was inclusive of all the people who contributed to her success , it appealed to emotion and it highlighted subtly the work of Female (Black ) Artistes in the Industry.

WARREN BEATTY and FAYE DUNWAY "FAKED UP" MAJORLY

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway incorrectly named La La Land as Best Picture on Sunday Night when the rightful winner was Moonlight which is a coming to age Movie that chronicles the life of Chiron a young boy neglected by a Drug Addict mother who was more interested in getting her fixes than her son.

HALLE BERRY WIG MISHAP

While this was more on the Red Carpet it is still worth talking about. Halle Berry who usually looks amazing in just about everything failed to deliver last night. Her Dress and Make-up was "so so" and her Wig looked a "Haute Mess". It was stiff and dense and looked as if it was flung on in a hurry then secured by a ton of Hairspray. There is a first time for everything and we can safely say it was the first time she didn't look good.

MERYL STREEP GETS A STANDING OVATION BEFORE THE 1ST AWARD

Oh Meryl ! We like to regard Meryl Streep as the "Female Denzel" , she has played so many different roles quite effortlessly and is able to transform each time to suit the various characters. Meryl has been in over 50 Films in all her years of acting and is now on her 20th nomination ( even though she didn't appear in any movies last year ). Kimmel asked the audience to give her an undeserved round of applause as he made a sarcastic dig at a previous statement made by Donald Trump who called the Actress "one of the most over-rated Actresses in Hollywood" on Twitter.
