How to Really, Really Set Goals

Monday, January 23, 2017

It is January 2017 which means the start of a new month and new year. Get ready , you will see #Goals related posts all over the Internet. We all have goals whether you write them down or not ; that's just Human nature. We here at The Haute Lifestyle decided we would help you set goals for 2017.

"Goals/Dreams don't work unless you do"

Categorize them: Sooo , here's the thing about goals... they can be quite vague. The thing that helps me to set goals is to categorize them. Personally, my categories are: Personal , Professional , Financial , Health , Spiritual and Emotion. This might sound like a long list but you will soon find that this method makes setting goals not only easy but attainable.

Time Stamp: Give your self some time ... real time! How long do you give yourself realistically to set and accomplish these goals. I find that the most challenging goals will take a longer time so I might give myself a full 12 months. The easy breezy goals will take less time so I might give myself anywhere between 6 weeks to 90 days.

Accountability: The first time I heard about an Accountability partner , I said there is no way in heck I'm gonna let somebody all up in my business! Having a person who truly has your best interest at heart to hold you accountable for setting and accomplishing those goals it's like you are not allowed to fail.

Failure: The First time I heard that quote I was taken aback then it got me thinking. If there are no failures it means I'm not doing anything new and if I'm not doing anything new I'm failing. I want you to really really think about this and comment :-)

Celebrate: There is nothing wrong with celebrating your wins! Treat yourself to something really nice ( or simple ... whatever floats your boat ) but just celebrate. You are well deserving of your victory so celebrate ... But! Be wise about it , this is not the time to ball out.

Whats in my Twinkle Vox Box?

Sunday, January 22, 2017

Hi Guys! We are partially back ( in a way ) I decided to go ahead and put out this review from Influenster on their Holiday Vox Box! Without further ado , here is what I received in my Twinkle Box.

Aquation Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I have never heard of this brand so it was really interesting to try it. The size I received was a full 16 fl oz and it is suppose to banish dry "winter skin" and give you a boost. This lotion has is enriched with 3 ceramides , hyaluronic acid and marine algae , Aquation is clinically proven to hydrate skin for 24 hours for noticeably softer healthy skin. The only thing I disliked about the Lotion was the scent ... it is supposed to be unscented but it did have a really weird smell similar to when you leave lotions for years then decide to use it again.

Hills Bros Hot Chocolate Milk and Dark Chocolate

Crafted with real sugar and European milk and dark chocolate , Hills Bros , Hot Cocoa is perfectly blended to brew a treat you can call your own. I looove Hot Chocolate and I was so happy to see this in my Box! They come in small cups ( similar to K-cups ) that you use in a Keurig. If you don't have a Keurig you can still brew it on the stove-top and the taste is the same. Though small , they hold a lot so this could easily take you into next month.

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Unscented Dry Shampoo

Clean Freak is the ultimate quick-fix to get that perfect hair and not waste precious time in the bathroom. Expect  more room on your social calendar because this salon formula dry shampoo will have you and your hair ready in no time. I have never used Dry Shampoo as my natural hair texture is not best for this product. However! I was able to use it on my extensions and while it made the hair feel clean I did not see that much of a difference.

CoverGirl So Lashy! by blastPRO Mascara

Another CoverGirl Mascara is what I needed since my Lashblast is almost gone! The great thing about the So Lashy is that it works for everyone and has a uniquely designed brush that transforms your lashes for a bold and sexy look that is unique to you. The way it was packaged is really interesting in that the brush and the Mascara canister came separate. I'm guessing this is to eliminate air from going into the Mascara which gives it that gloopy , hardened texture which makes it hard to spread. It definitely does what it says and it give my lashes all kinds of life!

Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets

Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheets come with pre-cut paper sheets packed to lay flat right out of the box, so it won't curl or roll. Definitely thicker and sturdier than any other baking sheets I've used.

Oreo Thins

A twist on the traditional Oreos we love! I kinda did not like this if I'm to be 100% honest. I like my Oreo with the cream packed and stuffed with the middle with the chunkier cookie. I like the small size and how easily it fit into my handbag.

AXE White Label Night Body Wash

Though this product is targeted for men ... I used it and it was good! It has a really nice strong scent which combined a rush of grapefruit, lavender , ceder-wood and praline notes for an immaculate clean and the freshest end to a long day.

Country Crock Buttery Spread Coupon

This coupon is good for any Country Crock Buttery Spread that retails anywhere between $1.99 - 3.12 ( 15oz - 45 oz ) I have no used this coupon just yet but when I do it will be for baking cookies and cakes and also for eating on top of Toast.

I received these products complimentary for testing purposes. All opinions are my own

Ciao 2017! Last weekend saw the kick-start of the first major fashion event on the 2017 fashion almanac, Milan Fashion Week. The Italian city of fashion, one of the most important fashion capitals in the world as a matter of fact, Milan, houses many fashion brands that boast classic and exquisite collections. Social media kept on buzzing through the entire weekend as 2017 pre-fall trends for men and women were finally put on blast through the much anticipated fashion week.
Thank God, It’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday……..! Highlights of this weekend include Alberta Ferretti’s collection of graphic knitwear of the days of the week printed on colourful, vibrant sweaters. That was only the first snippet. After the tier dubbed, “Rainbow Week”, were “Pre-Fall” and “Limited Edition” which were comprised of fresh and elegant pieces.

The sweaters of "Rainbow Week" with every day of the week printed on each.

2017 is the year for intergalactic themed apparel as models strut down the Moschino runway in cosmos prints with hints of metallic details and accessories. It didn’t stop there, military inspired pieces, floral prints along with other creative explosive prints were also presented on the runway.

Prada goes retro with its collection of 70’s styled pieces. Suede, leather and fur fabrics appeared on the runway with beautiful earthy tones of burgundies, tans, greys and camels.

The Valentino fashion show was a reminder of how powerful and influential fashion can be. Pierpaolo Piccioli made it his job as creative director to inspire and relay messages through carefully chosen colors and themes within the collection. Valentino sought to impart sensations of hope and optimism for the New Year with the pre fall/winter collection. The message was certainly conveyed with the use of beautiful pastel pinks and blues, florals, sparkles and sequins.

The positive quote behind the look: "No matter how radically different, all authentic gestures speak the same language: human"

Go check out Valentino’s Instagram and be inspired by the motivational quotes that represent looks on the runway:
Milano brought 2017 fashion week to an electrifying start. I personally loved that the brands brought out positive and fun vibes in their collection. Furthermore, Jamaican presence on the runway last weekend was marvellous in the likes of Tami Williams. I am excited to see what the rest of the shows and fashion weeks have in store for us.

2016 Year In Review

Friday, January 13, 2017

2016 was a challenging yet rewarding year. It feels like "2013" when I cared zero about opinions of others and Haute People took off flying!

2016 was the year I put pride aside and finally ( finally ) asked for help! We counted and we went to over 50 Fashion Shows! That's a lot of Designers and a lot of Photos.

2016 was the year I tried many things that scared me ( kinda ) like taking an unplanned trip to Montego Bay to attend a Music Festival where I met Akon and Nico and Vince.

It was the year I created TWO Magazines , one Bridal and the other a Gift Guide and the launch of Haute People Lifestyle Magazine. In 2016 I was an exhibitor/sponsor for Kingston's biggest one Day Bridal Expo " Wedding Spectacular".

2016 was the year I went through health related issues and felt pain like I've never felt in my entire life.

This was the year I surprised my self by living in a new country and learnt so much about accepting a new culture and being 1st world status :-) It was the year I traveled and really really embraced life!

Below is a synopsis of 2016 (through photos ) Stay tuned for plans for 2017 as I believe this is my year to really do auh mazing things. I know that things will not always be happy and easy but I'm ready and willing to put the naysayers to bed and show people how "extra" I can be.

Best Diet and Nutrition Apps for 2017

Thursday, January 12, 2017

If you want to get a good-looking body, increase your strength, stamina and overall health, there’s more to achieving all of that than just simply regularly hitting the gym. Although exercise is a very important part of it, you also need to look at the type of food you’re eating and change your overall diet to a healthier one. Food is what gives us all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals that give our bodies energy and keeps us going throughout the day, so really diet is actually a precursor to exercise. Once you get your diet sorted out, then you can focus on hitting those weights. What’s more, eating the wrong type of food can cause serious health issues over time and leave you with some chronic problems (diabetes, for example) that you want to avoid at all costs.

In order to properly document all the food that you take into your body, we highly recommend that you reach for a good nutrition app. Not only are these apps capable of precisely calculating the number of calories you take into your organism, but they can also give you informative suggestions about foods that you eat too much, or not enough of. There are many fantastic ones out there that you can use, and today we’re going to be talking about some of them. Word of caution: since fitness apps, in general, are not that secure, and some of them require you to input personal information, it’s best to use some kind of mobile security app as well as a VPN in order to secure your smartphone or tablet.

My FitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is probably one of the most popular nutrition apps out there today and with good reason. It has a huge archive of various types of food that you can easily use to document your meals and discover their caloric value. It has an easy-to-use intuitive interface and is even equipped with a barcode scanner that you can use to quickly input groceries and get all the necessary details about them. The app is 100% free, so we suggest that you try it out as soon as possible.

Like MyFitnessPal, Fooducate also has a barcode scanner function that you can use to speed up the whole process of counting your calories, but it can also give you suggestions about healthier alternatives. For example, once you scan a potentially unhealthy box of cereal with a high concentration of sugar, Fooducate will attempt to show you some other products within a similar price range, but with lower caloric value and higher nutritional value. Additionally, this app doubles as an exercise tracker, so you can just use one app for both tracking your diet and your exercise routine.

One of the best things about Shopwell is that, after using its built-in barcode scanner to obtain information about a product’s nutrition, it can actually rank grocery items taking into consideration your own personal nutritional needs. It’s a great way to easily develop a personalized diet that you can stick to for a long period of time, and with very little effort. In addition to all of that, you can also create nutritional goals for yourself using Shopwell, and then the app will enforce a number of dietary restrictions in order to help you reach that goal.

Calorie Counter Pro

This nifty little nutrition app doubles as an exercise tracker and can provide you with accurate nutritional information about more than 40 types of different nutrients. On the exercise side, it has more than 500 different routines in its database so it can really help you mix it up when it comes to your workouts. But perhaps the most amazing feature of Calorie Counter Pro is the ability to build up an entire plan of your eating and exercising habits, and track your progress thereafter.

My Diet Coach

This app revolves around creating and fulfilling certain fitness and nutritional goals in order to help you start enforcing correct eating habits, so you can shed those few extra pounds and ultimately become healthier than before. Once you input your weight loss goal, My Diet Coach will provide you with frequent reminders and motivational messages in order to help you achieve it. You can also track a few other things with it, such as your daily water intake (very important), vegetables, etc. Of course, as with almost every other nutritional app, there’s a calorie calculator and diet diary included which you can use to regulate your meals properly.
