Summer Travel Hacks

Friday, July 29, 2016

It is no secret that I love to travel! Of course, because of the economy where I live I have not been able to do so in awhile. I know that Summer is peak season and I thought I would share some hacks I've learned over the years to make travelling easier.

Dress Over Night: For those long trips with several connecting flights , I find that they are always early morning. When you receive your travel itinerary it tells you the check in time which is well before 6.a.m. Shower/Bathe , and sleep in the clothes you will be travelling in. If it's something that might get crushed ... lay them out or hang them separately so that it's the first thing you put on.

Shower Later: This is a continuation to the hack above. What you do is shower later in the night so that it will be a few hours since your last shower. Makes sense? Think of it like showering in the morning before work ... and not having to shower again until 8 hours. This time it's a lot less hours than that.

Dryer Fresh: If you are travelling , clearly you will have a suitcase and clothing. To keep your clothes smelling fresh , place a dryer sheet in your suitcase which will also reduce static! Dryer Sheets are super expensive and can be found almost everywhere.

Roll It: This not what you think! lol ... To save space in your Suitcase roll them! It also takes more time and if your goal is to shop like me this is your best bet.

Plastic Please: I am an A -Type personality and an A-Type packer! My favorite travel hack is to get zip lock bags and place items like Underwear , Medication and other Knick Knacks so when TSA searches the bags they see all my items front and center . In my opinions , it makes packing easier and neater and it just looks better to me.

Final Tip! Ladies and gents ..ensure the items you pack are clean especially underwear! It is not a good look or smell! What I like to do is wash the clothing I plan to travel with and use fabric softener so they smell extra good.

How to remove Acne Scars at Home

Thursday, July 28, 2016

Ever since I hit the age of 29 ( yes , little me is 29 ) my skin has gone crazy! All of a sudden the "monthly" breakouts leave acne marks and I have the same breakouts at the same places. Aarrgh! Instead of taking the traditional "chemical" route by prescribing to over the counter drugs by a dermatologist ... I've decided to go au naturale . Here are some ways I'm dealing with Acne Scars at home.

Bizzy Tea ( Kola Nut ): Bizzy (kola nut) is the fruit of the cola tree, which is native to the tropical rain-forests of Africa. It has typically been kept in many Jamaican homes where it is used as an antidote against poison, usually food poisoning, and allergies. Basically, if there is something on your skin that is not supposed to be there , the Bizzy Tea will remove it! You can purchase the loose tea and boil it on the stove then add sugar if you wish or purchase the Teabag in stores. I drink that every other night and it helps with blood circulation and makes your skin have a natural glow because it works on the inside. This is relatively inexpensive and is readily available.

Aloe Vera ( Sinkle Bible ) : These grow in tropical countries where the weather is warm and if you live on the Islands it grows wild almost everywhere. It's prickly like a Cactus and what you do is cut it from the root , slice it in half to get that clear gel-like substance. One you have that substance you are gonna cleanse your face , then apply the gel directly to your skin and let it set on your face until you feel it tightening. This removes the dead skin and makes your face smooth and soft and gently fades the dark spots.

African Black Soap: All of a sudden we've magically discovered the "African Black Soap" which has been around for centuries. The Brand I use is "DuDu Osun" which I purchased here in Jamaica for $400 from Earth Elements. Below are some of the Benefits:

  • Naturally Cleansing Skin
  • Helps relieve acne, oily skin & other skin problems.
  • Great For Any Skin Type
  • Benefits against premature facial lines

Ingredients:

Pure honey, Shea butter, Osun (Camwood), Palm kernel Oil, Cocoa pod ash, palm bunch ash, Aloe Vera, Lime Juice, Lemon Juice, Water and Fragrance.
This Soap is Bae and I would recommend it to anyone.
Diet Change: If you know me you would know that I looooove FAST FOOD!!! I don't get why most people turn their noses up at Fast Food as it is sooo good and it saves time! Anyhoo , I'm eating a lot more protein and foods with Vitamin C which naturally brightens the skin. I'm eating more Fruits and Vegetables than Fast Food :-(
Water : Now , I was against this as I've been seeing people drinking huge jugs of water daily and I think that's ridiculous! I find that the water brings back the elasticity in my skin and it flushes the system of anything extra that usually clogs the pores and so on.
All the things I've listed above is not a magic fix to getting rid of Acne Scars but takes , time patience and dedication if you want to see results.

Dealing with Toxic People

Wednesday, July 27, 2016
“People inspire you, or they drain you—pick them wisely.” – Hans F. Hansen

I know you are used to those fun make-up and fashion posts but sometimes we like to get a little real. We've been receiving numerous E-mails where people want us to talk about Toxic People , Toxic Relationships , Toxic Jobs and so on. We thought we would have a little detox here at Haute People where we share our tips as we are no perfect and have been around all of the above! Today's it's all about toxic people.

Who is a Toxic Person?

According to Gale, it’s common for people with toxic behavior to: create drama in their lives or be surrounded by it; try to manipulate or control others; be needy (“it is all about them all the time”); use others to meet their needs (such as “narcissistic parents”); be extremely critical of themselves and others; be jealous and envious of others, bemoaning their bad fortune and others’ good fortune; abuse substances or harm themselves in other ways, and be unwilling (or unable) to seek help from loved ones, a therapist or a recovery program.

Here are 5 Toxic People you Need to Avoid

The Gossiper: This person knows everybody's Business and makes it their duty to tell it to everyone. These people find it fun to dig into people's business ... they literally sit and research social media accounts , photos and so on.

The Victim: I have personally been around a person like this and let me tell you this person is one of the worst! This person always feels like it's always somebody else's fault as they never take responsibility for their actions. These people are usually tough to spot as you always find yourself empathizing with them.

The Temperamental: Code Red ! Code Red! This is the quote , unquote "psycho". One minute they are happy ... the next minute they are sad. Another time they are wiling to help you .. the next minute they want to destroy you. These people are easy to spot and if I was you .. I would stay clear!

Negative Ned/Nancy: Nothing positive ever comes from this person. It's all negative words and actions .. "I can't", "this won't work", "not" , "no" . These people are like a BIG GREY CLOUD over your life everyday!

The Manipulator: I was once friends with a manipulator and boy did she dupe us! These people play on your emotions and weaknesses .. they are the most helpful and supportive until they catch you in their tracks! They are tricky to deal with because they treat you like a friend but they have an hidden agenda. They'll do anything to win you over so they can work you over!

Toxic people will drain you if you allow them and make they feel as miserable as you! Be sure to stand clear of these people once you spot them and don't allow them to drag you into their vortex! Keep the conversation going .. comment below! If you're shy Email us

5 Summer On a Budget Outing Ideas

Tuesday, July 26, 2016
Hey Guys!

Summer is on in full swing and it's pretty evident by the scorching hot Sun and barely there clothing. In spite of all the heat , people love being outdoors. If you are the outdoorsy type , we have the perrrrfect ways for you to be outdoors and save money all at the same time!

Have a Potluck: I know the term Potluck sounds ancient ( even the word ancient sounds ancient ) But here's what you do. Tell all your friends and family to bring an item or two to a designated location ( outdoor ) and you all have a big meal and a grand old time.

Life is a BEACH: Yeah , yeah corny I know and we've all seen the T-Shirts. One of the most popular Summer outing is the Beach. Depending on where you are in the world, going to the beach might be free or a minimal fee. Grab your Swimsuit , Towels and Sunblock and you are good to go!

Launches: This is a bit different and kinda out there but stay with me. Summer is the time for Events and Festivals and to get people interested in these Events, there is always a Launch of some sort. Some are by invite only but some are open to the Public. I find that these launches have "free food" and great ambiance. Go for it ( without shame )

The Movies: Talk about Summer Cliche' ... I didn't even know people still go out to see Movies ( if you know what I mean ) As of recently, we have been having an Event where you get to watch movies under the stars. There is a schedule and a fee and all you do is pay the fee , bring a blanket and you will be watching Movies under the stars.

Just Get Out: This is rather vague and broad but think about it! Set a time and date and go with  a group of friends or by yourself and just go anywhere! The whole point of the Summer is to go out on an adventure and just see what the world has to offer you.

Instantly Fix Dark Knees and Elbows with the Nubian Body Paint

Monday, July 25, 2016

If you are a melanin sistah like myself , some areas of your skin might be darker than others. I have no scientific reasons why this is so ... it just is. These areas are usually the ones that are more exposed like the knees and elbows. Summer is the time people like to show off their skin and if you have any darker areas you would like to "blend" away , we've found an instant fix!

" The Nubian Body Paint is the #1 quick fix solution that is fast drying , richly colored , liquid concealer with resilient staying power !"  I was sent the product for the purpose of Review by Genius Beauty and will be sharing my experience with the Product with you.

The Nubian Body Paint retails for $24.99 on the website and all you have to do is select the shade that suits you. It comes in a slender glass-like make-up bottle and is 1 oz or 3 ml ( standard make-up size ) . Since it's a natural product , the colored part of the product separates and you can see the separation of a clear liquid and the dark color. With a generous shake , the separation disintegrates and it's back to normal. A little goes a long way with the product as it's highly pigmented! Go easy when pumping the product as the pump is really effective and you will get more than you need. To apply , I spray it to a small cotton bud then apply to my skin... you can apply it directly to your skin if you wish.

The best part about this product is that it stays put!  You won't have to worry about it getting on your clothing and bedspread as this was a great concern for me.

I give this product a 8/10 just because it separates and I have to shake each time to get it to come together. It can also be used on elbows , under-arm and to conceal blemishes.

Key features & benefits of Nubian Body Paint:

  • Full-coverage resultsSay goodbye to dark spots all day!
  • Fast-drying formulaComplete the "instantly flawless" look in minutes!
  • Smudge-proof qualityKeep clothes and furniture clean!
  • Skin-like finishEnjoy being noticed for the right reasons!
  • Advanced Self-Esteem: Feel better about yourself when polishing flaws away... "Out of sight, out of mind"

Essential Tips to Improve Work-Life Balance When You Work at Home

Thursday, July 21, 2016

When it comes to our well-being, both physical and mental, we can say that work-life balance is essential – it makes us more productive and efficient, especially in the long-run. It gets even more important when you work at home, because sometimes, it can be very difficult to create boundaries and distinguish between the two. The truth is that this isn’t impossible – you can improve that balance even when you work at home. Here are five useful tips on how to accomplish that, so check them out.

Create some boundaries for your home office time

Boundaries are absolutely essential when it comes to the balance between your work and private life, especially if you work at home. They will help you increase productivity and reduce stress, which will improve your well-being and promote your health. Coming up with office hours is crucial because you need to establish the blocks of time when you won’t be able to prepare meals, play with your kids, or run errands. Make sure that your family and clients are familiar with your work hours, and that they respect them. Learn to say ‘no’ and that will help you avoid prolonging your work by an hour or two.

Prioritize your time

Make sure that you know exactly how your time is spent during the day or the week, both professionally and personally, and decide what your top priorities are. Once that is done, you’ll need to make some adjustments to your time schedule, which is crucial for maintaining the work-life balance. You’ll need some time to dedicate to your priorities if you really want to act on them – so take a weekly calendar and some crayons, and map them out to create your typical week. Don’t forget to schedule breaks, too!

Let go of perfectionism

Being a perfectionist at an early age can be considered as a good thing, however, things change as soon as we grow up and perfectionism becomes a hindrance. An adult life is certainly more complicated and brings more responsibilities, so striving for perfectionism can result in intense burnout – make sure to be realistic and therefore more efficient. When you aim for excellence, you may actually get an excellent result. However, if you aim for perfection, you may never get there, so don’t be an overachiever and you’ll feel much better about yourself – both professionally and personally.

Physical activity brings balance to your life

Different people have different ways of winding down. This often depends on the office setting in the first place. Since you work at home, your business space and place to relax are at the same spot – take advantage of that as much as you can. Online yoga may be the right thing for you if you don’t want to leave your house. If you love being in nature, you can always go for a brisk walk after work. On the other hand, if working out in a gym is your kind of thing, you are more than welcome to do that. Just get high-quality workout equipment and head straight to your local gym. That will help you clear your mind and tone those muscles at the same time!

Turn off your devices

The same technology that allows you to work at home may actually take up much more time after the work is done, so say ‘no’ to it and turn off the devices that are distracting you. You really don’t have to check every notification or take your smartphone every time it dings – that can be pretty much nerve-wracking. Instead, turn it off and spend some quality time with your family or your own thoughts after work. This will greatly contribute to your overall well-being, so make sure not to skip it!

As you can see, maintaining a balance between your work and personal life doesn’t have to be difficult – even if you work at home. Of course, there are some boundaries that need to be set in order for everything to work perfectly for you. Don’t forget to schedule breaks and some time just for yourself – that is definitely the key to success!

Five Steez gives an 'Encore'

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Fresh off the release of Dirty Couch from his upcoming EP HeatRockz, independent Hip Hop artist Five Steez has released another song – Encore – for free download and streaming. One can see him rocking the crowd in a packed venue with this energetic banger, produced by Mordecai.

“They get the hardcore and they want more,” chants Steez in the chorus. “So we sure of what we in store / I get the encore, hear the crowd roar / from the dance floor to the club door.”

During the verses, Five Steez showcases his skill in usual fashion, spewing clever rhymes with ease.

Encore is also the second track on HeatRockz, following Dirty Couch, the EP’s first release “Of the five songs on this Five Steez EP, Encore is my joint,” says Mordecai. “It’s fun and it reminds me of the energy I’ve seen at some of his shows.”

Five Steez describes HeatRockz, which is entirely produced by Mordecai, as his most aggressive project. It will be fully available at http://bit.ly/HeatRockz on August 30.

Five Steez, in June, released Momentum Vol.3, the finale to his mixtape trilogy with DJ Ready Cee. His other projects include his 2012 debut album, War for Peace – which received great reviews from various outlets, including digital store, iTunes – and his 2014 EP, These Kingston Times, listed by World Hip Hop Market as one of the year’s best international Hip Hop releases.

3 Ways to Re-purpose Content

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Hey Guys!

We are on track with giving you tips and tricks about "The Business of Blogging". As you can tell by the topic above , today we'll tackle re-purposing content. What does it even mean to "Re-purpose Content? See a quick definition below :

" it's when you take a piece of content and change it so it serves a different purpose ". - blog.hubspot.com

As I always say , there is nothing new under the Sun! Every idea you can think about somebody else has already thought about it and lived it! The same can be said about "Content". Let's say you have an idea in mind and you start researching it and several ideas with similar ideas pop-up ... here is how you can make it your own... by "Re-purposing".

Write in your Own Voice: Never , ever copy everything verbatim! That's plagiarism! Change the words , put in some new and fresh information so that it sounds "like you".

Make it Engaging: Add some life to your article by adding Photos, Videos , Gifs and so on. When people read it , it should seem like you are the first people in the world who wrote about the topic.

Think about Your Audience: While the information you find might be in line to an Article you are planning to write , it might not resonate with your specific audience. Tailor the information to suit your audience and remember to think about the tone.

I hope this gave you some ideas on how to re-purpose Content and encourage you to push yourself further in your journey.

How to stand out at Networking Events

Monday, July 18, 2016

Summer is the season of Events ... Music Festivals , Fashion Show and Brunches a plenty! If you are looking to meet new people and leverage clients for your Business it's always a great idea to go to Events that are in line with your area of interest. Keep reading as we share tips on how to stand out at Networking Events.

Dress the part: If you are going to a Fashion Launch , dress fashionable! It's that simple! One thing I like to do is make my own accessories. You would be surprised with the things you can do with Fabric, Ribbons , Flowers and a few D-I-Y YouTube Videos.

Work the Room: I'm naturally shy when I go out and I've been learning to step out of my comfort zone and talk to people! It can be a bit much at first if you are naturally shy but just challenge yourself to talk to 5 new people. Talk about yourself and what you do without being obnoxious ... nobody likes a person who is obnoxious and annoying.

Be Yourself : Guys , they say imitation is the highest form of flattery .. but whatever happened to just being yourself! We are all unique and all have something to offer the world so go with that! Too many times I've seen people I know since they were young ( and know their social status ) pretending to be rich. If you take the Bus do not tell people you drive a Benz. Just be you ... and be truthful.

Go to Many Events: Practice makes perfect! The more Events you go to the better it is for you. Going to several networking events gives you a chance to work on your social graces and meet people. I remember when I just started going to Networking Events , I didn't know one person but after going to a few those same people became friends.

Make Good Conversation: Do not be a dumbbell! Pick up a Newspaper or watch something besides "The Kardashians" every now and again. Most of these events will have you standing around aimlessly until whoever it is , is ready to present and just standing around gets really awkward. Find something to talk about that is substantial.

Always have Business Cards or something that has your information on so people can catch up with you. The Design of your Business Card is also a great way for you to stand out at Networking Events.
