5 approved steps to boost your body self-confidence

Thursday, August 11, 2016

It’s not always easy to feel good about your body image, especially if you have a few pounds more than you’d like to, or a body shape that makes you feel very self-conscious. The truth is, there are many different types of beautiful and your confidence should not depend on whether or not you have a flat tummy or love handles. The key to improved body self-confidence is in recognizing what problematic areas bother you and why. Here are the five steps towards a more confident and satisfied you.

#1 Surround yourself with people that nurture a positive body image

Although we tend to blame fashion magazines and television for the constant dissatisfaction with our bodies and even more serious issues in society (such as eating disorders), this negativity comes from many different sources, even from your friends. You may be a collateral victim of constant whining of your dear friend who has an extremely negative self-body image. Her own insecurities might transfer to you. This doesn’t mean you should stop being friends with her. But be kind enough to stop her when she begins with the fat-talk. Don’t comfort her: rather rationally explain that she has the power to change her body. Then explain the same thing to yourself. People that are confident about their bodies are a living proof that weight has nothing to do with your self-esteem (or at least, it shouldn’t).

#2 Focus on the features you love about your body

Have a great smile and pucker lips? Wear a red lipstick. Got long, lean legs? Make heads turn by wearing a short dress. Everyone has features that are beautiful, so instead of focusing on the imperfections, why don’t you show off your strong sides? In addition to that, you can use makeup to underline your natural beauty and shop clothes that flatter your body type.

# 3 Put things into perspective and workout

We tend to beat ourselves up without every single “flaw” and the negativity can be spirit crushing. Instead of making yourself feel bad about your thick thighs, why don’t you try feeling grateful for having two healthy legs that can take you anywhere you’d like? Not everyone has been that lucky. After acknowledging that you are blessed with a healthy and functioning body, commit to working out. Do it not just for the flat tummy or a tight bottom, but for your overall physical and mental health. It’s much more than just staying in shape.

#4 Indulge yourself

Self-care is extremely important, but in a fast-paced world, we don’t devote much time to it. To boost your body image, pamper yourself. Your body is a temple and you should treat it right. Go to a spa, try out different massages and enjoy face treatments. Feed your skin with nourishing scented oils and lotions and it will thank you with a radiant look.

#5 Know there’s always a way

With cosmetic procedures constantly improving, you can do a correction of just about any part of your body. Before deciding to do so, make sure you’re doing it for yourself, not because of the criticism of others. Some of the procedures can actually be beneficial for your health. For example, many women that suffer from back pain due to large breasts choose to undergo breast reduction surgery, both for aesthetic and health reasons. Technology has advanced and plastic surgery really isn’t a big deal anymore. Be unapologetic on your path to becoming more satisfied with your body image. It’s important to realize that there’s no universal beauty standard you should strive to. You have every right to feel good in your skin.

These are the five steps for boosting your body self-confidence, but it’s not an exhaustive list. Make sure you do everything you can to feel good about yourself and treat your body with respect.
