The Broke Millennial's Guide to Christmas Gifts

Monday, November 30, 2015
A Millennial is anyone who was born between the early 1980's and 2000's. We are bold , self entitled and have the belief that in order to be successful , we should not have to work for anyone period!

With these beliefs there are certain periods of time when we have a lot of money and another time we are broke. The tips below is sure to help the broke millennial this season.

Less is always more: If you know you have limited funds for the holiday , there is no need to be ballin'; you literally cannot afford it. Ask people the top 5 items they would like ( limit the amount of people ) then do your research and get the least expensive thing on that list.

Make Purchases earlier: Stores tend to hike their prices as it gets closer to Christmas especially on Christmas Eve. Try to purchase gifts as early as possible! Things like electronics are very popular and also expensive so get them early! Use days like Black Friday or whatever sale is available to you.

Never Re-Gift: Would you want something that another person doesn't want? There are those slick cheap people who think it's cool to simply pass over a gift they don't want from like 5 years ago and feel they have successfully given a great gift! Newsflash! People know when they are being re-gifted.

Personalize it: If you are crafty or super talented , why not make something. I actually prefer handmade gifts to store bought ones since I know time and thought went into it. If you are a great painter , you can gift an original painting. All it will cost you is time since you already have the resources.

The Gift of Self : Sounds a bit corny and even crazy right? Well , you're broke so it's all about being creative so you can please the people around you ( not really ) Let's say you are a photographer and all your core group of friends are Bloggers. Why not offer them some of your time to shoot a few pictures for them?  Maybe your friend just  had a baby and could use some help ..offer yourself

Share your tips on Gift Shopping when you are broke

Mission Catwalk All Star Season Review

Thursday, November 26, 2015
Another successful season of Jamaica's Reality Designers series , Mission Catwalk came to an end on November 21,2015 where the talented Designer from the Bahamas was named the Season 5 All Stars Winner.

This Season we were re-introduced to a few of our favorite Designers which includes Ayana Dixon , Shenna Carby and Andre Shirley from past seasons. We have witnessed the immense growth in craftsmanship and personal development for each designer who entered their respective season as newbies.

We were also introduced to a new mentor , Mercedes Gonzales who was not afraid to give the Designers her honest opinion ( whether they liked it or not ) Mercedez left no stone un turned as she gave her wealth of knowledge on how to not only make quality garments but also how to market themselves to be recognized as a worldwide brand.

For the final "Mission" the final 3 Designers were given the challenge to create a mini collection previewing 3 must haves for their Spring 2016 collection. These looks had to be creative , cohesive and of course looks that every woman would want to hand down to her daughter.

The live "Final Showdown" was held on November 15,2015 at Devon House at the Formal Gardens. Fashion Enthusiasts , Bloggers and Media were invited to view what the Designers had to present for their final walk. David Rolles' collection was a crowd favorite as it had beautiful pieces inspired by the Caribbean and the pieces were not only beautiful but wearable.

Mission Catwalk Season 5 All Stars was packed with excitement , creative pieces and of course drama! For the next season we love love to see "behind the scenes" of what happens when the Camera's stop rolling and those moments when people

Make a Seasonal Statement with Larimar

Friday, November 20, 2015

Winter can be a challenging season to accessorize for. Spring and summer fashions are often inspired by a lightening of the air and a brightening of color, but fall and winter can be more difficult to work with. After all, the colder days and longer nights more often inspire hibernation than fashion. There are ways that you can still make a fashionable statement during these colder months, however, while remaining true to the colors and tones of the time, and one of these is with Larimar.

A Cooler Palette

While a colorful, full-spectrum palette of clothing and accessory options is often popular in spring and summer, it’s often only the cooler end of the color spectrum that gets seen during winter. Gray, blue, cream, black, and green are often the colors most used during this time of year when the colors begin to reflect those seen most frequently in the landscape.

That’s what makes Larimar such a perfect accent to your winter wardrobe. This rare form of blue pectolite has a naturally crystal blue color, with tones of cream, white, and blue-green as well. Paired with any winter wardrobe, Larimar is the perfect complement, accenting these other colors and helping to add some depth to the palette as a whole.

A Holiday Accent

In addition to working perfectly with a traditional winter color palette, Larimar can also make a beautiful statement during the holidays as well. Larimar’s cool blue tones offer the perfect foil to the more ubiquitous reds and greens with a color that is analogous, yet separate enough to be different. And for those that want to nod toward the season, there are also numerous pieces of Larimar with a deep red vein running through them courtesy of both oxygenation and hematite inclusions.

Wearing a Larimar bracelet, such as this open-ended Larimar bracelet lets people know that you appreciate beauty and the finer things in life, while at the same time embracing your own sense of style. This lightweight cuff, for example, would perfectly complement not only a cream sweater and pair of gray slacks, it would also cool off and update a bold red dress at the same time with the dual pieces of Larimar calling extra attention to the piece.

 A Statement Piece

With so many people wrapping themselves up and hiding away during the winter months, those that choose to make a statement with accessories and jewelry like Larimar truly make themselves stand out in a crowd. Larimar has a unique color, clarity, and triclinic crystalline structure, which makes it stand out from other, more common gemstones. So when you choose to wear a piece of Larimar this winter, you’ll be attracting attention and making a statement that puts you apart from those that choose to let winter define them, rather than the other way around.

A Rare Choice

Larimar can be found in only one mine in the Dominican Republic, and each piece is handcrafted by artisans who pay attention to the stone’s fracture pattern as they shape each piece. Combined with the stone’s unique coloration, this makes Larimar truly different from common gemstones, some of which are produced in a lab.

Make a Statement with Larimar

This winter, rather than letting the drabness of the season dictate your fashion choices, set yourself apart with fine Larimar Jewelry by Laura Bonetti. This cool blue stone never goes out of style, and will help ensure that you’re perfectly adorned for the season.

Black Opal Makeup Challenge

Monday, November 16, 2015
There comes a time in our life when we must step out of our comfort zone to do things that make us a little scared. For me .. that time is now! I have been doing things that I've always wanted to do but was always "too whatever" no matter how small it was. One of those things is Make-up! I've been experimenting with various makeup looks via tutorials on Youtube and Magazines and I recently got some stuff from a few places and Black Opal was a part of the mix.

Here is my semi wearable bold lips Make-up look featuring the Black Opal Cream to Powder Foundation in Carob and the Black Opal Flawless Concealer in Beautiful Bronze.

Black Opal is a line of make-up targeted for women of colour and is a more affordable brand. In the past I have to admit I stayed away from the Brand because it was on the cheaper side and I only knew about CoverGirl.

I tried it a few months ago and liked the results then got it again this month plus a few (free) extras along with my purchase. It is a great foundation if you are just starting out because it's inexpensive , it's easy to apply and it's build-able. I did not like that it is not full coverage , it does not last all day and it is easily transferable.

What is on thing that scares you?

The 3 Step Winged Liner

Monday, November 9, 2015
Hi Guys! We are  officially in "Holiday Season" which apart from Family Dinners and various events means Make-Up Trends!

This trend is one that has never gone out of style like the Little Black Dress and I've figured out a way to do it in 3 Steps. Follow my steps below to get the perfect winged Liner in 3 easy steps.

STEP 1

Take a Black eye liner to draw a line on your top lid line. It's best if the line is thin since it will serve as your base. Think of an actual wing and notice how thin the base is. To get the perfect line I like to use anything that has a straight edge ( that is safe and won't harm you ..lol ) Some people use tape .. whatever floats your  Boat.

STEP 2

Draw another line to meet where you liner stops then draw it all the way down to the middle of your lid. This line should also be thin.

STEP 3

Fill in both lines with a Black Eyeliner. I like to use a Liquid Eyeliner as I feel it gives it just the right amount of drama and intensity and it make the Wing lasts longer.

Let me know how you do the Perfect Winged Liner

**Remember , it's just and only make-up. It washes off quite easily with soap and water :-) Let's not make a big deal and have fun with it ** If you would like to skip the DIY Makeup Trends you can always find a Salon that offers Full Services which include makeup.
