How to Deal with Negative Comments

Friday, August 14, 2015
As Bloggers, Youtubers and overall creative people we all get negative comments at one time or the other! Depending on how you handle negativity as a person it can either make or break you! Below are a few tips on how to handle negative comments.

1. Prepare yourself mentally: This is especially for those who do Video Content. If you go on Youtube and read some of the comments they are just plain disgusting and un-necessary. If you tell yourself that there are really messed up people out there who will say horrible things from the get so .. when those types of comments come, it won't be a surprise.

2. Take it for What it Is: While we might think all the comments are hateful and negative... it might just be constructive criticism. We are all different and communicate differently so you really have to read between the lines at time and decipher what is hate and what is constructive constructive.

3. Answer with something positive : If you really can't do any of the above and just have to say something.. let it be positive. For e.g when you get a negative comment , you can say "thank you ... I'll take that advice" or my favorite "God Bless You".

4. Ignore It: I've heard a lot of people say instead of getting riled up or responding to negative comments, they just simply ignore them. Sure ignoring it won't make it disappear but you will in a sense have piece of mind.

  4. I believe that you have to have a pretty thick skin in order to survive on the internet because in many cases you just can't avoid the negative comments, especially if you address issues that might be considered controversial.

  5. I usually delete negative comments as I've yet to read one that was constructive criticism. I usually get the nuts out there who have nothing better to do with their time. I don't try to bash them or anything, I'm not stooping that low, but I do delete them.

  8. #3 is my favorite way to handle negative comments. My Mom taught me to kill it with kindness. Most people don't expect it and it completely stops them in their tracks. I have zero time or energy for negative or nasty! :)
