TV and radio personality Debbie Bissoon is the new poster girl for Wedding Spectacular 2014, slated for February 22 & 23 at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The organizers of the event decided to up the ante and veer from size '0' models as the face of the event.

"This year, we chose to move away from choosing a size zero model to represent our brand. We wanted a beautiful woman who could rock a size 6 or 8 dress and realistically represent and identify with the Jamaican woman”... Event organizer, Mr. Kibwe McGann

On Saturday, January 25, the team tapped into tranquil atmosphere of Kingston's newest Wedding venue, Villa Ronai. Debbie wore two beautiful Mori Lee Dresses, provided by Beautiful Brides and Mr. Tux. Her glam squad for the day included makeup artist Julene Dixon from the L'Oreal Paris Jamaica team who showcased their 2014 bridal makeup line; and hair styling was done by Salon Innovation's very own Kerry Spencer and transport courtesy of KIG.

Attendees of Wedding Spectacular can expect to receive a free copy with the Debbie gracing the covers. The magazine is to be produced by With Ease Catalogue Jamaica. Other elements of the shoot was provided by partners of the event

Pree Poo ( Not What You Think It Is )

Wednesday, January 22, 2014
The first time I heard that expression "pree poo" something really weird came to mind ... Does Pre- Poo involves me warming up to use the bathroom or something to that effect? It has nothing to do with that! It's all about hair.

Pree Poo is actually an Oil Treatment that is applied to hair before shampooing or conditioning. I first found this odd because I'm used to Oil Treatments being after the Shampoo process. However, when I thought about it, it made sense. Shampoo strips hair of it's natural nutrients so a treatment before is relevant to ensure that the moisture is locked in. Another important reason to Pree Poo hair is that it helps with tangles, this is especially essential for natural hair (hair that has not been chemically processed) Depending on your hair type, hair tangles easily and Its frustrating to sit down and comb through all those knots.

Popular Pree Poo Oils
  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Homemade Blends
  • Yogurt
  • Honey
  • Bananas
After the Pree Poo process your hair should feel soft and your scalp should be able to breathe. I am yet to try this treatment so I'll let you know how it goes when I do.

Have your Tried Pree Poo?
What was the texture of your hair like after?

How To Get Your Life!

Monday, January 20, 2014
Hi Guys! If you are into reality T.V you must have heard about "Braxton Family Values" which comes on WE Tv , the show is all about R&B Sensation Toni Braxton & her sisters. Toni's youngest sister Tamar is known for her over the top personality and of course her famous expressions. One of this is "Get Your Life" which means get it together or get it straight. Here are 5 ways to get your life.

Love Yourself: This is easier said than done. First of all "love" is relative. Some people believe that to love yourself means accepting a better form of treatment than you are used to while others think it has to do with buying material things to make you happy. I personally think in order to love yourself you have to know who you are. Once you've figured out who you are then you will know what to accept and what not to accept.

Remove Negativity From Your Life: You can never move forward with negativity around you. This negativity comes mostly from the people around you. This can be friends or even family, if you find that when you are around these people you don't feel happy or all they do is speak negatively about other people ... cut them off completely. This might sound daunting especially If these are people you've known for years. I can guarantee you that once you remove these people, things will be better ... not only will you have clearer thoughts but you will be happier.

Be Positive: Again this is "easier said than done" . Life is filled with challenges and obstacles, that's just how it is. We are all different and all have our cross(es) to bare ... but! If you keep thinking negative thoughts and the worst of every situation, that is what you will attract and that is what will manifest in your life. Instead of curling up in a ball or wearing all black ... Think Positive and see If It makes a different.

Invest in Yourself: It's so weird that in most instances we tend to negate the basic upkeep of our selves. This would fall into three categories: Mind, Body & Spirit. If you are a church person, go to church and get involved in various activities or programs. Instead of watching "Keeping up with the Kardashians" why not invest in a good motivational book? During this time in your life It's best to feed your brain with substantial things instead of garbage. There is also nothing wrong with being pampered ... our bodies need care, if you feel like getting a manicure, go ahead!

Have a Great Support System: "Everybody needs some help along the way". I'm slowing trying to grasp this concept and is starting to see where it makes sense. In everything you do, there has to be somebody there to push you when you are down or feel less than worthy. It is especially great when these people have your best interest at heart as there are a lot of wolves in sheep clothing out there ready to devour you as soon as they see you are about to fail. Figure out who is truly with you from the onset and that extra push will make you feel invincible.

I hope this post inspires at least ONE person out there to be better

5 Trends That Need To Stop!

Friday, January 17, 2014
T.G.I.F! I hope you guys plan to do something amazing over the weekend .. It could be attending an event, cleaning or just taking some well needed rest. Let's get down to business! It's 2014 and there are certain trends that need to stop! Are you guilty of any of these?

Box Brows: In 2013 everybody became their own make-up artiste ( Thank you Lyric) There is nothing wrong with that, its great when you can do something for yourself and save some money. However! Those big, bold brows need to be laid to rest in 2013 ladies. For this year .. try to get your brows to look as natural as possible. Instead of using a foundation that is too light to shape your brows .. why not use one that actually matches? Also ... please remember to blend.

Y.O.L.O: I don't know who started this trend but it should also be left in 2013. I understand what it means but I've found that people have been using it as an excuse to do really stupid things that have harsh consequences.

Vocal Frying: I actually heard this on the Wendy Williams Show then saw it on Yahoo. It's this really annoying way that young girls speak in that high pitch voice then extend words that don't need to be extended. Think of the way Paris Hilton or the Kardashians speak .... "guuuuyyyyyyyssss oh my goooooooood" . It's not natural and it's harmful to the vocal chords.

Lion Head Pieces: When these came out they were so cool .. Thanks to trendsetter Rihanna. But! then there were Lion Head Bracelets, Rings, Belts, Earrings ... I'm pretty sure there are Lion Head Panties out there.

Bitstrip: It was cool in 2013 .. but not anymore. Most of the bitstrips don't even look like the actual person

There are soooo many other trends that need to be left in 2013. These are the ones I personally think needs to be over.

What Trends do you absolutely dislike?

Youth View Awards 2014

Wednesday, January 15, 2014
Hi Guys! Happy Humpday :-) It's Awards Season and I'm happy that Jamaica is in Awards Fever Mode. If you live in Jamaica, you would have heard about the Youth View Awards more popularly known as the "YVAs". The YVAs is deemed as a people's choice type of Awards show where Teens and Young Adults get to vote for their favorite people from various categories.

This is the only show of its kind in Jamaica that gives a voice to young people and allow their talents to not only be celebrated but also rewarded. Since its inception in 2009 the show has featured international personalities like Rosci Diaz former host of B.E.T's 106 & Park Top 10 Countdown and this year musical guest Zendaya more popularly known as Rocky from "Shake it up " on Disney Channel.

This February 1st, 2014 the National Indoor Sports Center will come to life by some of Jamaica' Young, Hot & Hype Teens and Young Adults. Tickets start at $1,500jmd for general admission and limited V.I.P at $3,500. One of the highlights of the show is the "After Party". This is one of the go to events for the year where some of Jamaica's celebrities and media personalities come together with their fans for a night of fun after the Awards Show. This year fans will have the chance to vote for their favorite celebrities in 26 categories which includes : Favorite Media Personality (Radio+ T.V), Favorite Local Artiste of the Year ( Male/Female) and of course Favorite Dancehall Artiste ( Male/Female). 2013 Favorites

Monday, January 13, 2014
Hi Guys! I've been seeing a lot of Bloggers/Youtubers doing this "2013 Favorites" Post/Video so I thought why not jump on board? Here are the things I really liked in 2013.

Make-Up

Definitely Maybelline Brand. Some people might say high-end trumps drugstore but I say " use what works for you". The Maybelline brand is affordable , available everywhere and It does what's Its suppose to do.

Eye-shadow

Physicians Formula Eye Shadow Palette. I always thought this particular brand was for more mature people because of the name, but I saw some of the Items on Sale and bought a set that had a two sided Mascara, Eyelash serum and the eye-shadow palette. The colors are more natural, they are pigmented and the have shimmer.

Lip Products

Maybelline again ( call me Maybelline ...lol ) Yes! I've been using their Baby Lips in Pink Shock and also the Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Gloss in Plum. Both give just a hint of color which i like since I'm not a Fan of Lipstick.

Hair Products

I was really loving Softsheen Carson Products. I received some products from them for my Anniversary event and I was really loving the Amla Legend Billion Hair Potion, Amla Legend Damage Antidote, Optimum 6 in 1 Miracle Oil and Roots of Nature Shea Butter Green Tea.

Body

Yes to Carrots Body Lotion. This is made of actual Carrots and It's said to repair and moisturize skin. I also liked the Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh and the Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion in Shea Butter.

Nail Polish

I like really light polishes. so anything that's light and looks natural was my favorite last year.

Hair Straightener

Just had to throw this in there. I like my hair straight as opposed to curly or wavy because I think that requires a lot more upkeep. For straight hair I use ... Garnier Flat Iron Perfector. It keeps your hair straight for up to 48 hrs and it also works as a heat protectant.

Scent

Not a fan of perfume because it just doesn't work with my Asthma :-(  In 2013 I really liked Rome Honeysuckle Amore and Butterfly Flower from Bath and Body Works.

Candle

Candy Apple from Bath and Body Works.

Facial Cleanser

Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser that I've been using since I was 13... It hasn't changed

These are some of the things I really liked in 2013. There are sooo many other categories that comes to mind , however I don't want to bore people with splitting the post in parts or have an extensive list of items.

What were some of your favorite things in 2013?

Best Grooming Products For Men

Friday, January 10, 2014
Hi Guys! Happy Friday. Today I wanted to do something different  and do a post for the men! Men read this Blog too and I've always wanted to do something for them. Today It's all about grooming products for men because like us females they want to look and smell good too :-)

Gillete Mach 3: Gillete has been around for years or as we say in Jamaica "Donkey Years" which simply mean a looong time. Gillete to men is like Oil of Olay for women. This has been deemed as one of the best razors there is because of the 4 blades. It gives a close shave without stripping the skin of it's natural moisture and can be found anywhere ( almost ). The price point on this is high ... but based on what most guys say It's extremely worth it.

Nivea for men post Shave Balm: Of course an After Shave Product would be next on this list .. this is a Balm as opposed to a Gel or Foam Product. This product soothes , calms , softens and moisturizes. The best part is that it's not messy and does not have that weird obvious "After Shave Small" .

Carmex Mint Lip Balm: Guys! Don't worry lip balms don't have colour so you are good and they are also not only for women! Lip Balm is used as a sunblock because lips are thin and sensitive and they are the most exposed part of your body to the Sun. Lip Balm is also used to heal dry cracked lips, as a moisturizer and it even freshens your breath. Tip: Stay away from anything that says tinted lip balm as this has colour .. unless you don't mind wearing a little colour.

Axe Line of Products: I'm sure we've all seen the commercials .. Axe makes women go crazy
( literally ) It smells really great plus its affordable. If you are in your Teens and looking to impress the ladies and on a tight budget Axe is your best bet.

Head and Shoulder ( Men ): Guys always love grooming their hair. Its either a clean shave, s-curls, cornrows whatever it is .. Men are always doing something with their hair. Sometimes all those products and genetics can cause men to have dandruff ( no shame if you do ) Head and Shoulders is great for Dandruff. They now have a line specifically for men so you can try that out.

Old Spice Deodorant: Back in the day this was targeted for more mature men. However today, they've added new scents and Terry Crews ..lol so younger guys have gravitated to this brand. The scents are musky but fresh and modern.

These are a few of the popular grooming products men use as indicate in a quick Survey on Facebook.

Guys! What Products do you use for Grooming? Please Comment below

2013 Year In Review

Wednesday, January 8, 2014
I thought It would be fun to do a little review of 2013 just to see where I'm at in life and whether or not something can be improved.

100,000 Page Views: This might sound silly to some especially those of my fellow Jamaicans who have no idea what a Blog is or think its something that's for "farin people" . However, when I started this Blog I never expected ONE person to read it and it's amazing to know that 100,000 people have viewed it.

Driving A Standard Car: I remember looking at the car outside my window and felt so much hate toward that metallic inanimate object. Why was it just parked there looking at me? How would I remember all those gears and when to sink the clutch and all the stuff or drive in traffic or on the road without stalling. One day I finally decided to take that car on the road because of immense hunger and to my surprise all those fears were in my mind. I drove all the way without stalling and most importantly .. i made it back alive.

Blogging Project/s: My ultimate goal from Blogging is to be one of those superstar bloggers ( without the fame part ) who is synonymous with Blogging and is able to live off my Blog. I remember when i was asked to be the official Blogger for the Miss UWI Pageant I was beyond excited. I was now able to reach to that community of young brilliant minds that i was once apart of. This was the year I also added Copy-writing to my Roster . I had no idea I would get to write for legit companies in another country and would actually be paid.

Open My Heart: Sounds weird or cliche' but I've been through a lot in my life and one would say I've lived a full 20 something life. I don't trust people easily and for me to meet a guy and actually invite him over and get him involved in certain aspects of my life is something I never saw myself doing for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time :-) Can't say I'm head over heels but It's a work in progress.

Fashion Event: I love this field and how fast paced it is. I was extremely blessed to be able to not only plan but execute an event for myself on a shoestring budget. Well it was a sponsored event :-) But! Those people actually believe in me so much that they invested their money , time and products in my little event. This is something that truly made my year.

Appearance on Popular Jamaican Brand: I made my first appearance on the Azan's Home YouTube video as a Jamaican guest Blogger! I was actually the first and only one too :-) I've always had mad respect for the Azans and the way they are able to take risks and think of business ideas that we all benefit from so for me to be a guest on their show , using their products was auh mazing.

There were so many other amazing things that happened in that short space of 12 months and also some not so good ones. The amazing ones however trumped those bad ones.  These are however the ones that stood out the most last year. I thank you all so much for your support wherever you are in the world and ask for your continued support for this year and after.

How NOT to be a Gulity Purchaser

Hi Guys! Happy Monday :-) I really love doing these  "how not to" posts. They are a fun way of adding humor to real life issues. Have you ever bought something and felt really guilty? I meant the kind of guilt that feels like its eating you up on the inside? Today, you no longer have to feel that way.

Guilty Purchaser - "One who is overtaken by guilt of a purchase/s which can lead to shoppers remorse"

Don't Spend your own money: Think about it ladies, the guilt you are probably feeling after making a particular purchase is because you know that money was for something else. Maybe it was to pay off a debt , pay your tuition or pay something for your child. If you use somebody else's money ... you won't feel any form of guilt at all.

Shop Alone: If you are strap for cash and decide to give your self a little treat and by little I mean something really small like a pair of earrings ... be sure to go shopping by YOURSELF!! Friends will ruin you ... they will become enablers and will convince you to buy things you know you can't afford.

Wait for a Sale: On a more serious note .. wait for a Sale. Makes sense doesn't it? Sales are a great time to go crazy and get all the things you want. Sales for us here in Jamaica is relative. What the retailers will do is raise the price by 10% before the actual sale, then claim to take off that same percent and to the amateur shopper you think you saved money :-) You can always shop Online and get all the things you need ... CHEAP! Sign up with a courier company like Mailpac Express, they will take good care of you.

Set A Budget: Ladies, we always hear budget and immediately get sad as it limits us. Setting a budget will allow you to get what you need and still have money in your name :-) What I like to do is set the budget a little higher so that I can have a little left over to get something else. Let's say a handbag costs $10,000 you would set the budget at $12,000 - $15,000.

I hope these tips will help at least ONE person
It's 2014 ladies, its time to set goals and spend money smart

If you are a guilty purchaser .. share your story below

A Brand New Me?

Friday, January 3, 2014
Hi Guys! The posts have been so sporadic since I've started on this "Blogging Journey". This is one of those expressive posts as I find the element of ME is missing from this Blog. I hope to change that really soon ... sooo many things happened from November until now, let's just say I'm wishing for a 25 hour day. There was something I really wanted to accomplish before the end of the year to prove to myself and the world that even though things might be tough as long as you are ambitious, driven and dedicated amazing things can happen. I've set so many goals and i plan to accomplish them all. Personal , Work , Blog , Relationship etc .  I'm proud to say I've accomplished one of my goals so far. I noticed a situation in my life that has been going on for years and I decided for this year it has to stop. I did what i needed to do and it started a war. Thing is .. I won't be fighting back physically. "Ain't nobody got time for that" . There is much more to life than fighting people who are not important in your life ... as long as you say what needs to be said ... thats enough for me. In my adult life I've realized that Life goes on and that has been my mantra to get me through any difficult situation.

If you are having a bad day or you feel people are constantly , purposely making your life difficult ... the world will not just stop for you .. Life will in fact go on. For this year .. I will accomplish some MORE goals and I will be ready for whatever life throws at me. After all who would want to be in the same position for 3 or more years? Not this Haute Girl . I hope you will all be ready to fight for what you believe in without physically fighting ... I hope you will all go after your dreams and truly live life this year.  Ignore the haters ... all they can do is hate. Do you and remember if you feel nobody else wants you here .. Jesus does .. you are still alive :-)

This Video might mean something different to each person ... I hope you will be inspired and realize that the time is now to do what you need to do.
