Music Review: These Kingston Times by Five Steez

Saturday, November 8, 2014
It has been officially one week since I've been listening to These Kingston Times, the official EP launched by Five Steez.  The EP was officially launched in October and is available on various digital outlets such as Bandcamp & iTunes and streamable on Soundcloud.

The 8 track EP opens with  Welcome ( produced by OneMan Beats) which tells the tale of a modern version of Kingston. I get an old school Hip Hop vibe from this track as you can hear a subtle record scratching in the background. If you are not from Kingston or familiar with this city, Five Steez presents it in such a way that you feel like you are a Legit Kingstonian ... "Welcome to my yaaad" . Next up is "These Kingston Times" .... Five Steez shouts out a popular school of  hard knocks on North Streets and goes on to mention hard core places like Tivoli and dons in these areas and of course the Politicians. This track is much similar to Welcome , however it goes a bit deeper than what the regular outsider looking in would see.

As the Track List goes on , each song gets deeper and truly speaks about Kingston , the real hardcore beautiful , historical Kingston. I like the fact that all the songs are cohesive and completely relateable whether you are from Uptown or Downtown or left Jamaica and came back home. These Kingston Times is a story telling Ep as told by a passionate Artiste. Apart from the bass being a bit too strong in a few Songs, this EP was "mastered" professionally and I can see the Artiste going beyond "These Kingston Streets" for years to come.
