Top Rated Small Appliances for your Dorm Room

Monday, August 18, 2014
Happy Monday! My college & University massive .. enjoy what you have left of Summer as your days are numbered :-) To all the people who will be on Dorms or "Halls" as we call them here in Jamaica , there are a few items you need to survive .. literally!

A Microwave: There are actually some dorms that don't allow them I'm guessing its because of the high voltage it requires. This will be your life saver .. most college/university students don't have an extensive budget so Ramen Noodles and Freezer dinners will be your B.F.Fs. The Microwave will serve as your stove basically.

Mini-Fridge : This again is another life saver. Most dorms/halls will have a Kitchen with a Stove and a Fridge . The thing is you will have to share these things with people who are not so honest or as we say in Jamaica tief! You need your own fridge to secure your own stuff! Imagine finally getting some groceries ... about to cook that chicken only to realize it's missing ... no bueno.

Blender : I personally would have no use for this in University  ( who has time to be blending ) but with the latest Green Juice/Smoothie sensation , I guess this will be good for those days when you don't have time to cook. Purchase your favorite fruits and veggies and combine them into a healthy concoction.

Coffee Maker : All the non coffee drinkers out there who think they don't need Coffee , once you go to college/university you totally do ( unless you turn to other things to get that energy level up ) Contrary to what we are told by our parents/ grandparents here in Jamaica "Coffee does not make your head tuff" ...lol. It has caffeine which is great for bringing up your energy level ( in moderation ) It is a great morning picker-upper and you will need your very own. Great Idea : Sell Coffee to your dorm mates! Get different flavors and toppings etc and this could be your side hustle.

Iron : There will be days when you will have to make a presentation or have an interview that requires a more esteemed look. It's kind of a no- brainier that you cannot look presentable with crushed clothes. The Iron is also great for those days when you have a campus event and you want to wash and dry your favorite top right away. This trick is where you wash a piece of clothing .. wring it as dry as you can .. then dry it with the iron. Tip : This works best with a steam iron.

  4. Thanks for this great review. Although we are not in need of dorm room appliances yet ( have at least eight years to go!) we were thinking of getting a bar fridge. This has given me some ideas..

  5. Those are definitely must-haves in any home. Some college students just prefer to eat outside with cheap food rather than prepare and trouble themselves to buy those. They are just so busy with studies and all.

  6. I've never experienced going to a dorm but these are necessary appliances for a dorm student. Some might need a toaster. How about a hair dryer and curling iron for the bathroom?

  7. Hey, aren't these also the bare necessities for a newly-wed couple? Haha! Essential for dormers to read and think about.

  8. It might be a small cost to purchase these appliances but the amount of money you save in the long run would be well worth it. And not to mention one can only eat 2-minute noodles for so long ....

  10. Those appliances will surely be perfect for small rooms just like what a regular dorm room have. also, for busy college life, things must go the 'instant' way.

  11. The list provided is pretty much all you need. We used to need radios but with phones/laptops and the like, it's now redundant! Table fans are a must if your room has no air conditioning or ceiling fans and a vacuum to clean up after the snack bits hit the floor ;p

  19. Haha. I like the part about the fridge and ovens. Mini ones to do secret cooking! Those in dorms are usually overpacked with leftovers and stales! Smelly! It will be nice to have one in your own room!
