The Food Truck Frenzy in Jamaica

Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Happy Independence Day Jamaica!!! I'm sure most people are gearing up for the Grand Gala at the National Stadium .... however the show must go on! There is an emerging trend here in Jamaica that is picking up momentum . We all looove food ( I hope ) The next best thing is getting your favorite meal/s from your favorite Restaurants from a "Food Truck".

The Food Truck frenzy is by no means new to the Food Industry but is relatively new here in Jamaica. I'm sure we've all seen a movie or pictures lined up on the streets in large cities like New York of the food Trucks serving people their delectable dishes.

What's the Big Deal?

Well, it's a Restaurant on wheels which is cool by itself... then add your favorite meal/s made right there and you are able to get it while it's hot. Also , you get to skip the "dine in" price which is super expensive anyway and you can just grab it and go.

Food Trucks

Grill on Wheels : This Truck sells Hot Dogs and Fries ( with all the trimmings ) . This was first spotted at Hope Gardens at a private Birthday party but I'm not sure of its whereabouts.

Veggie Meals on Wheels:  This is the iriest Food Truck in Kingston. If you are into the healthy lifestyle and clean eating who says it has to be done inside a Restaurant? Get your quality Veggie means from this Truck located in Regal plaza ( near crossroads ).

Reggae Jammin': This Truck specializes in "Reggae Jammin" products which includes hot dogs and Burgers. These are all over the place! I've seen one in Half Way Tree at the entrance of Premiere Plaza. This is actually my favorite Food Truck because I love a good Burger and I especially like that they are not stingy with their condiments.

Bikkle Bus: This is one of the latest food truck sensations in St. Andrew. They launched recently, in late July and started out in Stony Hill. They offer Wings ,Burgers , Fries and basically fast food on the go. They were last seen at Dream Weekend during the Emancipation Weekend.

It is great that this trend is starting to pick up in Jamaica as it not only gives patrons diversity in food , but it creates an income for individuals in these hard times.

What is your favorite Food Truck? ( Jamaica & International )

  1. I loved this kind of selling food on the wheels. I felt that it's very yummy to eat independently along with some other foodies outdoor.

  10. Happy Independence Day to you! I looooove food trucks and so happy that we have so many here in Sacramento. In fact there's always a monthly food truck event in our neighborhood park.

I would probably try your Reggae Jammin first if I'm there. And I hope that they play a lot of reggae music too!
