First Day of University Outfit

Monday, August 11, 2014
Happy Monday peeps! By the title above , you already know what this article is all about. Orientation is the final week of August ( which you must attend ) which could only mean school is about to start soon, as we say in  Jamaica "Free Paper Bun".

That first outfit is like a first impression ... it will last. Back in my Day at UWI ( 2007-2010/11 ) people were known by their clothes before we knew each other's name. There was that one guy who wore the same green t-shirt and combat boots everyday who was known as "The Guy in the Green Shirt " ....lol . You need an outfit that will give people an idea about your personality without even introducing yourself that is trendy yet appropriate for school. Below are a few ideas.

Preppy Chic

Preppy Chic courtesy of Jcrew Lookbook
With this look , all the pieces are structured and dates as far back as 1912 to the upper class where young ladies wore uniforms to private school. This uniform was used to separate them from the students who attended Public School. This look today is basically mixing something that is structured like a button down shirt with a nice pair of pants , minimal jewelry and a pair of flats. If you decide to go for this look , mix it up with Jeans and a statement Necklace.

All Star Girl

This model looks comfy in her college sweatshirt
I remember when on Campus , there were girls who purchased clothing items from the University Bookstore bearing the University Logo then paring them with jeans and sneakers or flats then adding their favorite accessories. This is more of a comfortable look for people who live on campus who is not looking to dress up too much but look "ok" enough to be taken seriously. This is also a great way to tell who lives on Halls.

 Bohemian Princess

Bohemian Chic

Think of people like Vanessa Hudgens or Nicole Richie . This look is more of a modern day hippie .. pieces are flowy with a mixture of patterns and prints. This look consists of laying and putting pieces together that would not normally go together. Tip : Since we live in Jamaica , you might want to skip the layering .. Kimonos are a hot trend this season so that could be a staple item for you.

 Fashionista

The confident Fashionista
You are that girl who will be talked about ( for all the right reasons ) when you step on campus. You look like you came off a shoot with Elle or Vogue Magazine.  You ooze that confidence like you know exactly what you want and more importantly , you know how to put an outfit together. This look is a more dressed up option , but that's ok ... it's your first day. Ensure that the outfit you choose is comfy from head to toe as your first day will involve a lot of walking and standing in line.

  11. Your good at it in selecting dresses but I think school dresses should be modest and clean in the eyes of the students.
