Jamaica Festival 2014 to get New Look!

Friday, June 6, 2014
The Honorable Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna yesterday announced at the Launch for Jamaica Festival 2014 that the event will be totally re-vamped this year.  Instead of the events being held weeks before Emancipation ( Aug 1) and Emancipation ( August 6) the Festival will be a celebration of Jamaican Culture and will begin in June.

This year's event will place emphasis on:

The Culinary Arts: This will be done by targeting young "budding" Chefs in High School and from the various Culinary Institutions in Jamaica.

Performing Arts: According to Principal Director of Culture, Dahlia Harris Dance is one of the more popular categories of the Festival celebrations. This year Dancers will win millions in prizes.

Visual Arts: "These include the National Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition; short training programmes in the form of workshops and seminars that address skill development and industry issues"

Literary Arts: Creative Writing , Short Stories , Essays , Plays Poetry and Novels

And This year even Film! Thanks to platforms like YouTube and Vimeo, I am personally glad the organizers decided to include this category. Established and Amateur Film makers will have the chance to showcase their work in the "Auntie Roachie" being put on by C.P.T.C . Click here for more info.
