Summers in July: The Worst Foundation I've Ever Used

Monday, July 29, 2013
Hi Guys! Good Morning , Happy Monday ! Today i would like to have a bit of a Girl Talk and share with you something I'm truly sorry i bought ( even though it was on Sale)

The worst foundation I've ever used in my entire life is the Black Radiance Colour Perfect Oil Free Liquid Make up . I actually bought this because i see it in the Beauty/Make-up section on the Walmart Website alot! And i was interested because there is not a lot of Make-up targeted for black skin at Walmart . Rewind to 5 months ago and i saw it at Monarch Pharmacy on SALE for $300 jmd ... that's crazy, liquid make-up for $300!

Anyway , i brought it home tried it and hated it! I tried it a second time , this time by watching YouTube videos to see how to apply it and i still hated it! It has a really weird texture and consistency. Before i get into all that ... the smell!! It smells like old lady :-( The texture kinda reminds me of Clay and how quickly Clay dries once it's exposed to the Sun . It has more of a red underdone and it goes on really splotchy! If you have Oily Skin ... its not for you (even though it says oily skin). This product does not withstand heat ... in fact i think it draws heat to your face and gives that sweaty "piggy" look. I used it one day without a loose powder and before i went out the door it was already melting off ! I also tried it the next day with Powder and nothing changed.

According to the Product Description it says:
  • Water Based Product
  • Full Coverage
  • Matches Skins Undertone
  • Never Achy
  • Never Red
  • Leaving Skin Fresh for a Natural Look
Yeah Right!

Based on my experience with this product i would not recommend to a friend at all!

I know Black Radiance re-branded recently so i'm guessing i have the old Formula

If you've used this product ... please for the love of God ... share your experience.

(something BIG will be announced soon)

Summer In July : How To Fix A Make - Up Meltdown

Friday, July 26, 2013
"Make- Up Meltdown ... not on this street"

Cheers to the Weekend Guys! We've made it through another week .. phew! I can't say it was easy, but I'm alive! It's Summer and It's crazy hottt ! It's always Summer in Jamaica but as we like to say " Di Heat Tun Up". Ladies and gents, I have the solution to fix your Make- Up Meltdowns ! Read the tips below.

Use a Powder Foundation: I know that people love liquid foundations because they give a really nice Airbrush finish , but now is the time to invest in a good powder foundation. The great thing about a powder foundation is that it gives a really cool nice "matte" finish. This foundation has no where to go but on your face.

Anti- Shine: I actually just learnt about this while doing research for this post. Make -up artiste Eve Pearl, explains that this comes in light and dark and you choose the one that's right for you based on your Skin Tone. This basically stops shine and can be used under make-up or can be used alone. Click Here to learn more about this Product.

Blotting Sheets/Paper : Let's say you don't want to switch to a liquid foundation and the powder still leaves your face shiny and sweaty. Blotting sheets are great to have in your Cosmetics bag. Blotting sheets/paper offer quick touch ups without removing your make-up. Some of my favorite brands are E.l.f and Clean and Clear . I know that the Clean and Clear ones are at Discount Pharmacy in Manor Park :-) Dear Discount Pharmacy contact me ...lol  They retail for a little over $800 Jmd

These are my top 3 Tips to avoid Make- Up Meltdown . There are tons of other tips and tricks out there , however these are the ones that work for me . If you have your own special tips to avoid Make-Up Meltdown , please comment below .

Summers in July ! Ear Cuffs , Bling for a Warrior Princess ?

Wednesday, July 24, 2013
Hi Guys ! It'sssssssssssssssssssss Humpday ! Ha Ha ... again its not what you think it means so get your mind out of the gutter! Last Friday while watching Fashion Police on E! I thought that this would make a great post especially since all the Big Events are coming up in August! Party / Dream Girls stay tuned !

Ear Cuffs were introduced by High Fashion Brands Rodarte and Chanel  in their Spring/ Summer 2013 Runway Collections. The main idea behind this cool new trend is to appear as if you have multiple piercings without all that pain :-(  It is a great way to jazz up your style a bit and can even be worn with some of the most High Fashion designs even fit for a Runway .
(See photo below of Jessica Alba on the Red Carpet).

This piece of "Ear Bling" dates as far back as the 1970s when females would "experiment" with a lot of trends as this was the time when female liberation started. This look is not just for the Red Carpet or the Battle Field but can be worn everyday ! Make sure you wear it with confidence and have a spunky personality ... This trend is not for the "safe" girls . Ear Cuffs are not only for girls with pierced ears as they are curved and fit snuggly at the upper and lower parts of your Ears.

Below are some of the places you can find Ear Cuffs

Claire's - U.S.A ( These are fun and cute for Teens and Pre-Teens)
Etsy  ( Etsy is a great place to find unique pieces , everything is handmade)
Amazon ( The worlds' favorite E-commerce site )

What do you think about this trend?
Haute or Not?

If you are the owner of a store and carry Ear Cuffs ... comment below with your links so my readers can find you

Summers In July : The Real Deal about Tutti Frutti

Monday, July 22, 2013
Hi Guys ! Its the start of a brand new week and once again , you get a "do over" . As you can tell by the topic , today it's all about Tutti Frutti.

Tutti Frutti is the latest "Yogurt Sensation" to hit us here in Kingston. What many of you might not know is that this is not a new Company. The Tutti Frutti Franchise was trademarked in the U.S. They have stores all over the world including Australia, France , Hong Kong , Cambodia , India and even Saudi Arabia !  ( Just to name a few)

Ever since its launch in Jamaica earlier this year , it has garnered quite the following and to date have over 2,400 fans on Facebook .

What's so special about this place?

Well , they serve Frozen Yogurt or "FroYo" which is relatively new to us here in Jamaica . The way it works is , they have particular flavors of Yogurt in dispensers that each customer get to basically help themselves . There are always new flavors and new toppings posted frequently on their FaceBook page and in the store. Speaking of FaceBook Page , i find that their page is very interactive and once you comment it doesn't take long for you to get a response . The only thing i don't like is their message system. That kind of takes a while , I'm guessing its because they post all the information they think all their clients might need on the page , but! It's still always good to answer questions via messages .

Tutti Frutti is a great place to visit during the Summer because its hottt and its always nice to have something to help you cool down.

Nutrition Facts

Calories : 30 per serving

Tutti Frutti is located at 29 East Kings House Road , Shop #5a Kingston Jamaica

Opening Hours : Mon - Thurs : 12:00 pm - 10 pm
                       Fri -Sunday :     11:00 - 11:00 pm

Have you tried this place yet?
What are your favorite flavour/s?

D-I-Y Wine Glass Lamp !

Friday, July 19, 2013
T.G.I.F ! This post is coming a little later than usual ... I kinda forgot :-) It's Summer ... the perfect time for parties and get togethers. Here is a fun project you can do for your next event or just to jazz up your space.

You Will Need:
2 Stemmed Wine Glasses ( Lamps come in pairs)
Tracing/ Tissue Paper
Flame-less Tea Candles
Scissors
Ruler/ Tape Measure
String/ Crochet Thread
Pencil

Step 1

Mark 7 inches on the piece of string by using a ruler/ tape measure. Next , make another mark  at the 12 inch line on your piece of string.

Step 2

Make a loose knot at the start of the string, then another at the 7 inch and another at the 12 inch mark. After you have finished with your knot , cut the string so that it is easier to work with.

Step 3

Place your string vertically on your paper. Use your pencil to mark the first knot on the paper. Place your pencil in the first knot you tied on the string . Remember this should have been loose so the pencil should fit without trouble. Use your other hand to hold the pencil firmly. Move the top part of your pencil and string across the paper on both sides. You should see what looks like a half circle beginning to form.

Step 4

Repeat the same steps above by putting your pencil in the 7 inch knot and make a second curved line across the page.

Step 5

Use a ruler to draw a line to connect both curves. Cut out the shape you just made.

Step 6
( No Photo)

Wrap the shape around itself to form an "open cone". You should now see the "lamp shade" shape beginning to form. Measure it around the Wine Glass to make sure its the perfect fit. Use Tape or Glue to secure your lampshade.

Step 7

Place the Tea Candle inside the Wine Glass and cover with the lampshade . To really make it pop ... add embellishments and patterns to make it your own.

I hope that i have inspired at least ONE person to go out and be creative.

All material used in this Project can be found at Azans in the Springs ( Halfway Tree Jamaica)

Tea Candles are flame less candles that don't require lighting with a match or lighter . Its a plastic candle that has an on/off switch that retails for $135 JMD

Summers In July : My Favorite Facial Cleaner

Wednesday, July 17, 2013
Hi Guys! Its Hump Day :-) Its not what you think it means ... its just the middle of the week and its all down hill from here . Today i would like to share my "Holy Grail" Facial Cleaner that i have used since High School.

The Clean and Clean Deep Action Cream Cleanser is my absolute favorite facial cleanser. It truly cleans deep down to the pores, it's oil free and it prevents breakouts plus it has a tingle. I like the fact that it's not abrasive but it still gets rid of all the gunk on your face. It removes foundation and eye make-up really well. This is not an intense Acne Product so i personally would not recommend it for Acne ( but I'm not a Dermatologist )

Because its not abrasive it can be used everyday however i use it at night , i just feel that it does more for me at that time . Sometimes i like to wear make-up during the day , i sweat, it rains then its sunny again ..lol all those affect the skin during the day and i like the fact that this product removes everything throughout the day. It retails for a little over $800 at Discount Pharmacy Manor Park :-) It might be more or less depending on where you buy it. This is my Holy Grail Cleanser and i would recommend this product to anyone especially teenagers . As i said ... it's not abrasive so it's safe for their skin.

Have you tried this product?
How did you like it?

Summers In July : Boots! The Jamaican Edition

Monday, July 15, 2013
Hi Guys! It's a new week :-) I must say i had a really great , productive week with the exception of a few bad things to make my weekend sour which i had no control over ... but i brushed it off and started a new week :-)

This post comes at you because there is a bad trend that's been taking over Jamaica which i must address. It's Summer and its crazy hot and I'm seeing girls in Jamaica wearing boots! Isn't that crazy? I'm thinking they don't know which to wear so below are some appropriate boots for Jamaica.

Ankle Boots

You can never go wrong with these. They stop at your ankles and they are also super trendy. You can find them in different colors , styles and heels. If you go for high heels, choose the ones you can actually walk in.

Above the Ankle Boots

Funny name :-) These are boots that go at least 2-3 inches above your ankle.

Mid Calf Boots

I would say these hit the middle part of your legs right where your calf is. These are not as low as ankle boots and they are not crazy high. Try to go for the ones that are not 100% leather as these will make you sweat in the crazy Jamaican heat. Combat Boots also fall into this category

Jelly Boots/ Rain Boots

Surprisingly, these are a great investment if you live in Jamaica or any other Caribbean Island where you know it will rain a lot in the Summer. There are the plain one colour ones or if you are more daring , go for one that has an interesting print.

Boots not to wear!

Over the Knee Boots and Fur Boots!

I really hope this post will help to stop the madness ! and people will chose the right Boot

JLC Women Set to Launch New Collection , Get Excited :-)

Friday, July 12, 2013
Today on "Summers in July" , we would like to bring you a feature on a revolutionary Brand . JLC Women is a New York Based Jewelry and Beach wear retailer owned by three exceptionally talented young Jamaican women : Jannae, Lauren and Chantay.

Jewelry, Loving Creative ( JLC) Women was founded in 2012 and was formed to help women celebrate their personalities and creativity through Fashion. No woman is alike and each piece that JLC showcases is a true representation of this. There are 4 featured collections which are :

Downtown Girl , Fluffy Girl , Uptown Girl and Posh Girl. As it relates to Beach wear , JLC Women creates pieces for women who want to feel sexy while leaving something to the imagination. These pieces feature bold colors , cut outs , mesh and lace pieces (material that flatter women ) and open backs . Haute People learnt that JLC has an upcoming collection and asked a few questions to share with our fabulous readers.

H.P: What Inspired your latest Collection :
J.L.C: "In terms of true inspiration, i cant really pin point any one thing. Our designs are mostly geared to fit and flatter a woman's body mixed in with sexy details. We first determine what collection we are designing for, whether downtown, fluffy, posh or uptown girl. That determines the color we can use, and the over all style the suite would go for.The same for earrings. Its the style of " the Girl" that determines what we design.  We don't come from a one size fits all perspective. That's even how the four collections came about, because different women have
different tastes, styles, preferences etc".

Here is a sneak peek of the Video Shoot for the latest collection!

If you follow the trends you would have heard about the must have piece for Summer according to the Fashion peeps which is dubbed the "Spider". The Spider is a Black Monokini with a high waisted detail , and Criss cross back with spaghetti straps. Click here to see it ! Before i wish you all a tremendous weekend ... i must leave you with the mantra of JLC :

"Don't only try to make yourselves beautiful on the outside, with stylish hair or by wearing gold jewelry or clothes. Instead, make yourselves beautiful on the inside, in your hearts, with the enduring quality of a gentle, peaceful spirit. This type of beauty is very precious in God's eyes."
1 Peter 3:3-4

Summers in July! D-I-Y Earring Holder!

Monday, July 8, 2013
Hi Guys ! Its Monday , i know this is the "dreaded" day for most people ... but guess what ? It comes every week after Sunday :-) Today , i would like to share a fun D-I-Y Earring Holder with you all . I know most people like to switch up their wardrobe in Summer and buy tonnnnssssss of accessories . See below for the steps .

You will Need:

·         Clipboard Border
·         Scissors
·         Glue
·         Glitter , Stickers ( any of your favourite decorations /embellishments)
·         Clear Tape
·         Crochet/ Embroidery Thread

Step 1

Remove ever other “Shape Row”. This is because the material is not sturdy and we want to maintain the shape of the Frame.

Step 2

Remove all the tiny holes from the spaces of the remaining shape row. This is where your Earrings will be hung.

Step 3

Take clear tape to secure the Back of your “frame”. Remember, the material we are working with and not sturdy. The purpose of the tape is to support the frame of the Clipboard Border. We need all the support we can get as you will be applying weight to it.

Step 4

There should be two holes at the top of the first row of shapes. Add your Crochet/ Embroidery thread firmly to these. This is to hang your Earring Holder.

Step 5

Start decorating! Add your favourite Decorations/ Embellishments to add your personal touch. For this project I used a “Stripe Design”. I simply used my glue to draw lines across my base, then added glue and glitter on top.

Step 6

Add your favourite Earrings.
